Re: General snow stuff
I'd be tempted to skin up Alta and just falling leaf the whole thing to scrape all the snow off.

Re: General snow stuff

It would justify 30 years of segregation.
Doesn't Snowbird allow you? So you can literally just drop in from the top? I don't follow the American scene any more so I don't remember. Always wanted to visit Little Cottonwood though, even though it's probably like wanting to surf the Superbank

I gather they call the police.
There's been some wicked footage of snowboarders there this week before they open.
I've been to Utah but not the canyons.

Finally got some snow.

Working today, and the wind chill is -23.
Tomorrow is supposed to be just below zero and sunny.
Trying to decide how far I want to drive, and whether to go backcountry or to a resort with no base.
The backcountry area got double what we did, and will get more tonight.

Re: General snow stuff
Our Christmas ski trip was a total bust with rain and no base.
One resort, that typically gets over 5m of snow a year, didn't even open.
The other was okay for 1.5 days. Okay as in mashed potatoes, ice and dirt. Worst snow I've ever seen, but because of it nobody was riding the one open 'black run' so I could bomb a few runs.
I was riding a camber board for the first time in 10 years, it was a big adjustment to actually being able to edge into the ice.

Re: General snow stuff
Are they going with business as usual at the resorts ‘boo, or are there closures?
Re: General snow stuff
It's game on, no limits anymore.
Another vote for backcountry, but there's not really enough base to justify 6 hours of driving.
I'll probably go and scout out a place about an hour away for later in the season and end up skinning.
Unfortunately all the resorts nearby are in Trump country with 40% vaccination rates and 40% Covid positive rates.
And are mostly owned by Vail. Fuck Vail.

Re: General snow stuff
We worked at a family-owned resort for a couple of seasons back in the day. A couple of years later it was sold to a conglomerate. Season passes went from $250 to $1000, indicative of resort-wide price hikes

Imagine if you could combine mountain biking with snow skiing ... you'd make a fucking fortune.
The moving finger writes and having writ moves on ... now all thy piety nor wit shall lure it back to cancel even half a line ... nor all thy tears wash out a single word of it.

Re: General snow stuff
I know you're being facetious but I'll respond anyway ... snow bikes are very niche and kinda lame. Skiing or snowboarding are far superior, as is snowmobiling. And in recent times some people have made snow motocross bikes. But plain downhill snow bikes just don't work, for various technical reasons.

Gotcha

Re: General snow stuff
Went splitboarding last weekend. Base was low and I locked my keys in the car and waited 2.5 hours to unlock the vehicle which meant a lot of hiking to keep warm.
It's meant to start snowing hard Sunday afternoon so I'm hoping the roads stay open. Hopefully getting about 25cm by Monday morning. Debating whether to take the powder board or test out the new camber number.
