Re: Just general surfing stuff
Looks great. I saw a bit of Cham Stuff in the Museum in Danang.
Interesting history. It was Cham, Khmer and Java. All similar but all different.
I like the rude lions they used to put on the corners of their building.
Vietnam seemed to have the work life balance down a bit better than Bangkok.
Even in the big cities like Hanoi. Looks like a cracking pace at the beach.
That's a good read about their historic claims to the South China Sea.

there are five or six bai xe in bai xep and this is probably the biggest of them with enough space for five or six cars and a dozen motorbikes, a capacity filled quite a few times in the summer of 2019 when tourism (both international and domestic) was booming:

It would be good if the Bells comp went ahead over Easter, just without the WSL.
They will have to find the old Bells bus to act as judges tower and administration centre

Re: Just general surfing stuff
sometimes the winter sea gets rough enough for a left to form off the end of the rock outcrop. when it breaks there i call it the "big mush". sometimes you can start out the back there and go left across the cove and when it comes to the rocks that stick up in the middle turn back and go right as it reforms into the shorebreak. that can be kind of fun.
Re: Just general surfing stuff
in this shot i'm at the point where you turn off what started as a left and look for the right to reform so you can scoot back across the shorebreak. i really like getting to that point and seeing that it's going to reform right - doesn't always do it.
Re: Just general surfing stuff
here's a picture on a calm day from the end of the rock outcrop close to where you can take off on a mushy outside left. pretty nice view. shows how much protection the rock outcrop gives our place from the northeast swells.
Re: Just general surfing stuff
Well I reckon it looks like fun Al!

Yeah and infinitely better than nothing.

Re: Just general surfing stuff
here's another shot of the rock outcrop to give an idea of its size. it's fun to sit at our place and watch the spray fly up when winter waves are breaking on the other side.
Re: Just general surfing stuff
The beach at Hoi An doesn't have anything like our rock outcrop. It's near the southern end of the long straight flat beach that stretches 30km from the Son Tra peninsula at Danang to the Thu Bon rivermouth, and the beachside properties there are built on sand. I guess that makes that them more vulnerable to erosion than we are on our rocky coastline.

Sat on the beach at Danang for a few days looking at the tiny waves there. Thinking should I hire one of the boards from the shop a few blocks back from the beach and go for a paddle. Ultimately it was just too lame to bother. Nice beach though.
