Thank you for your continued support Mr Beanpole.
I’m quite excited that it could be a great travel board for me.
I think I’ll test and refine this one and if all goes well I’ll get another one Computer cut and glassed locally. It’ll be good to have a brand new version in the car ready for action.
This one is a real 3D conundrum, every aspect needs consideration, but it’s also a lot of fun for those of you who enjoy building boards.

Are you going to name it "The Conundrum" Surffoils?

Hi Cranked,
I have no idea about naming things so go Hog Wild with suggestions if you like.
Here’s a pic of the prototype in a semi final arrangement.
The new laminated bridge ( on page 3) is only a few mm’s thick so there’s new refinements all the time.

What in the everlasting fcuk is it that you're actually shaping here, surffoils?
That isn't a surfboard.
This is like when your mum makes you go to the birthday party of the weird kid in primary school who plays in a recorder ensemble, and his mum saying you can have as much chocolate as you want, and it turns out to be carob.
I jest, but seriously?

My apologies for not being clear, it’s a multi piece travel board.
If I did it like this, everyone would get it.

I’ve just done it differently.
If you look at some of my other work with surfmats ,handplanes and shortboard hydrofoils,
there all ahead in design.
People don’t make tapered surfmats with curved planshapes and double concaves,or handplanes with flexible hulls.

And my shortboard foils were done in 2004, I saw Laird riding a foil and I had to make my own paddle in shortboard foils.
Everyone’s seen shortboard foils all around the world now, but back then everyone scratched their heads.

So it can travel but it can't ride waves?
Are you going to stand with one foot forward of the bridge?

Both feet will fit on the back section. It’s 44 inches long so long enough for normal foot placement. A longboard version would be longer as well.
I’ve paddled this one but it’s too small for me to stand up on.
I’ll make a bigger one and start serious water testing.
Testing is the best part of building, you get to see what works and what needs to be changed. It’s a learning curve of finding out how water moves.

Pretty far out stuff, Foily. What is the hand plane made out of?
Really like the surf mat.

The black handplane is heat formed polypropylene.
The orange one is shaped foam and glass with a clear vinyl flexible hull.
Those surf mats got me a lot of hate because I don’t subscribe to the Cult of Greenough where all mats are rectangles. There’s thread here called Beyond the Rectangle With my mats.

I’ll have to get it to fly first. Never sure with you guys if you’re pulling my leg rope or if you think it really is a good idea.
I’m looking forward to making a longboard version to see how quick it will turn without the long nose.

Surfers buy a wide range of different boards, singles, retro, Simmons, fun boards, foamys, longboards, twinnys, finless, high tech design, fun-boards,epoxy, Bonzers so there’s a lot of people who surf boards that look different.
I can see, once I get the design sorted, a niche market for something like this. It’s not a replacement for the standard board , just an option to try something different.

You've got to agree, the pic of your prototype is unusual to say the least.
But yeah, it'd be cool as anything if it works.

Yes it does looks unusual but foils looked mad a few years ago and now they’re everywhere.
I’ll keep working on it until it’s tuned and I’ve got video to show. That will be very cool.
