Great for old guys and intermediates or people who can’t really ride an HPSB.
Good point Thudster. I was watching a clip of Rob Machado on his new midlength after his new long fish. I have to say while it looked nice he was obviously nursing it through bottom turns and cruising.
I really like fish. Wish I had got into them when I was a bit younger.

lol "ok to ride", if I worried about what people might think of my boards I'd never go to the beach.
My fishiest board is a 5'10 Al Merrick Pod, I guess it's 33 litres. Discontinued now, there is a variant called the pod mod of which the subtleties would be lost on me, no doubt.

My son had a Pod. Okay kids board. I’ve still got an old Fishcuit lying around. Tolhurst fish are great.

Plenty of volume, forgiving rails but still capable. He had an egg shape before that. It was thinner and a really good board. I got Rabbidge to make something similar for him but he produced a learners board. Rarely ridden. I kind of liked my Fishcuit but it had zero rocker. Incredibly fast but really difficult in take offs.

I guess I see those as being the attributes for a fish board. I like riding the pod, keeps me off the mini mal as much as possible.

Wish I had bought a Tolhurst when they first came out. Excellent rocker. Great weight and volume distribution.
The bonzer version of The Pod is also supposed to be good.

looks interesting, never ridden a bonzer, doesn't look like a particularly manoeuvrable shape for small waves to me

They are very manoeuvrable- I think you you need a wall with some length though to get the best out of the design.

ok, I've never ridden one so really it's just armchair observation and applying what little I know about board design and came to the conclusion that the tail being so broad would suit more drawn out turns, not something I would imagine me doing on a small beachie.
Also they start at 5'10" which is probs my size and with my preference being for longer boards to compensate for lousy paddling (not an absolute I know) i find it interesting that 5'10" is the starting size.
Again I'd still have one (insert sponsorship here)

My custom Grant Miller F-Skate. 6'7" A big boys fish.
He made it a bit chunkier than I was expecting, plan shape wise, but he knew what he was doing. It's surprisingly quick and lively. The thing with this board is the way it gets up on the plane freakishly early after a couple of strokes, thanks to the full plan shape. My go-to board for anything up to 3 or 4 foot. The same large planing area makes it a great paddler too, combined with the low rocker.
It turns beautifully, you just have to get used to moving the back foot a touch.

I’ve thrashed my 6’6” Tolhurst to death. Still goes good though. Bought a 6’10” as a replacement but I haven’t really had the opportunity to give it a proper workout. I’m thinking it may be too big. Still goes well generally from my limited testing.

I remember Pavel was very popular about 10 years back, sort of one of the alternative board darlings. I saw Rasta ride a fish model of his (speed dialler?) and it was fast alright but looked very hard to turn. Of course I could be wrong, I can’t even ride a longboard.
