Up to what size and power could you ride these long twins? I see that Torrens Martyn guy riding in solid gear but, the reality?

Any thoughts?

I’ve seen fellas ride them in 3ft max and they look great at that wave size. But, I’d be worried they’d be a lack of drive.

I would surf them in overhead to 1.5ish cresso, superbank type stuff.

I have a 6’6” Tolhurst Fish which is a great board but a bit challenging for an old fella to pop up on. So I bought a 6’10” one exactly the same. I’ve had a terrible time on that. It takes off like a rocket and I have even more difficulty getting to my feet
Junior took it out at Crescent and tore it up on his backhand. The board looked really good. He used to like the 6’6”.

Depends what shape. Those mctavish el rayo verde look like a great step up mid length…. Minus the price tag.

I had a mid length conversation with a local shaper, talked rails, rocker, bottom contour and some other design principals, and threw the switch on a 5'10' rounded-pin ... quite excited with this adventure.

I’ve seen a few el rayos in the water.Quite narrow and yes, good for the good stuff.

There’s this guy from Manly who is a average surfer who has been reviewing quite a few mids on YouTube (his name is Craig) but, he seems to be settling on twin mids for everyday driver like waves.

Depends what you want it for, the El Rayo, Nautilus are made for strong 3ft to general 5/6ft. After that you’re getting into Trackers for bigger stuff.

Personally, I think if you’re an average to ordinary surfer who starts to tap out at 4ft get something like a M23 or DHD Sweetspot the alternative boards seem to only be good between 2-4ft. Of course I’m completely speaking out of turn here.

To note ive notice Neal Purchase Jr is chasing the longer board for bigger better waves market. Always has good stuff.

Fuck I dont know, maybe the fins the board, probably me , in hindsight I havent seen one being surfed in the way I want. Who knows, it isnt clicking though.

Something like this could be good.
I’d go 2 1/2- 2 3/4 instead of 3” though.

I got a bit tipsy and ordered a 7'6" Christenson ultra tracker that was 50% off.

It's a slimmer version of the ultra tracker. Should go alright in the long period south swells, but at that price I will flip it if I don't fall in love.

Wanted one of his boards for years but they're insanely priced. I have one of his powder snowboards and it's insanely good.
