Actually the board is only 1 & 7/8" thick, not 2"
channels wrote:By 25"?
That's the width yes.

Not really, although there is some, thin because it feels good and also to keep the volume down to 44 litres to make duck diving feasible ( hopefully). No use having a board which neither duck dives nor rolls under successfully.

Weight is 15 pounds, and with all that glass the board should last the century.

Here's the next one, same dims with the wide point forward.

I actually never thought I'd see the day where there would be one second hand. If it was 6'6-7' I'd have parted with the cash by now I reckon.

Here's something completely different.
I would love to try one of these.

I've now spied he has a model called a double diamond in the tsa range but with a double concave through the tail, fin plugs in a more conventional placement and with what seems to be more volume in a bit shorter lengths but using the same big flex fins and trailer.
Since he says the diamond has been a fave of his for 5 years it follows that maybe the double diamond is a newer version or whether its just a different version to suit the masses through the tsa construction/production.

Those fins on Webbers board look interesting.
Never tried fins with that much flex.
Reckon my next project will be to make a set out of some fibreglass off cuts I scored from the glassing factory at Byron.
The side fins look to be 13 layers of glass thick, probably 4oz, look closely at how it has been sanded to get that much flex.
Knowing the size of a fin tab it should be easy to scale out the fin size.

Emailed Greg to quizz him about the differences between the diamond and double diamond and it confirmed what I was thinking about the two boards.
He replied..."As for the diamond verses double diamond comparison the best answer I can give is that there is a bunch of capable intelligent surfers in their 50's and early 60's who adore the vee bottom, thinner railed flexing fins further forward version. The double diamond concave with double concave is good but they had to fulfil a slightly lower surfer ability level so they went thicker but went slightly more active in the bottom shape to make up for it. For you maybe 610 22 2 5/8 or 2 1/2 if you could manage it. The flexing board is as nice as the flexing fins and too much stiffness kills the whole board flex."
Interesting to hear that he's working on incorporating fin flex into board flex as a package.

Mark Rabbidge does some interesting things on fins with the use of a drill and a bandsaw I guess. A series of horizontal cuts running into a predrilled end make for a much more flexy fin. Don't know how long they last really but you can easily modify. Standard fin like this.

I was thinking about making one. My dims would be 6'7 1/2" x 20 3/4 x 2 1/4. Fins at 12 3/4 and 4 1/2.

SKY,were cutting slots in their twin fins mid 70s, just happened that MC was a shaper there.

those Soar fins look close to the Webber fins from his Twin Fish model, but with only 2 tabs instead of 3..

Base 6, depth 6.5....loads of flex and work great on the 6/0 TF, 6/6 MC and 7/1 MC.

had a go on a 7ft mctavish tracker today. made a pretty ordinary cross shore beachbreak into a bit of fun and that can't be bad. interested to see how it would go in decent waves.

Well, I haven't got the readys for a new stick right now so I ordered a quad set of the Webber flex fins to get my groove on in the mean time.
Reckon they may work well in my DVS wasp quad fish since it reminds me a bit of a Webber mini fish and its rear plugs are offset to the fronts so the rear fins flexing make work well.

This board is almost identical to the DVS surfskate......although , the surfskate is quad-finned , and has a nicely concaved deck , to lower the centre of gravity.

Funny how I was pooh poohed for 20 plus years for lowering the centre of gravity by eliminating profile taper.

I'll take a wild stab in the dark Roy , and say that you were more likely "pooh poohed" for claiming that no one else had ever done it before you ?..........
