Why isnt the surf as good as it used to be?

It just feels like the surf is not as consistent as it used to be...
4...5 years ago I remember there being more swell, not as many flat spells etc...
does anyone else notice this?

I agree. Well in NSW anyway. Obviously has to do with some cycle. Which one, i am not sure. I am sure, however, that some of the weather guru's would know. Maybe its the el nina/el nino change?

its always been like this, always had flat spells in the flat spell seasons especially august September and some summer months

^^ spot on, from my memory "flat spells" can continue for couple months with maybe a day or 2 of waves.
what i do remember is going nuts when i was younger when extended periods of small waves would happen.
it will pick up

don't u guys remember we had close to a month of straight swell during the early part of winter, its just a period, doesn't have anything to do with any long term cycles.. it will pick up again, don't worry! in the meantime, get into the study haha, my uni marks have sky rocketed and although i want waves, im kind of happy with no swell.

yep its always been like this. You just forget about the flat spells as soon as the waves come back!

You just cant remember every single little day in a year 4-5 years ago.
