that looks nice Huie.. is it one of yours that you shaped? and if so, i'd be keen to buy one (but pref. if there's one that'd fit into a fin-box, as i'm planning to putting one in).

I dunno, fin base is probably a better guide than height. I was talking to sam yoon a few weeks back in the fingal carpark about single fins and shit. he uses quite small single fins on all different sized boards, up to big elephant guns. he just puts them way back near the tail. he was saying that having a fin pushed up forward in the box somehow shortens your rail line effectively, like you lose a little bit of rail by having the pivot point further forward.

looking at that true ames one, it clearly has a narrower base so a 9 inch would be fine. it is a 6'11 after all and the tail looks wider than a lopez style semi-gun. if you know what I mean.

That makes total sense. And I hear what he's saying about putting the fin right at the back of the tail. Have been doing that in my bonzer for double overhead down the line stuff. It feels like a totally different board. Holds your line firm and true.

Iggs, hate to agree so emphatically with Fong, but get a box routed into that board pronto.

You need to experiment with fins in singleys. Fore/aft adjustment etc etc.

Sam Yoon likes small fins, I like basey singlefins for more drive. A Roy fin might be fun.

Best thing is getting a custom single fin hand foiled to your specs.

Your a big guy, I reckon you'd need a solid basey fin with a tad of torsional flex foiled in.

Get a box. Find a good repairer/glasser who knows his shitt and get a box routed in.

Thanks Shep. I'm getting Huie to hook me up with a 9" fin. See his pic. So I'm guessing something like that. He is also including the box / base . Will prob get Jacksons surfboards to do the repair and install, as they are pretty awesome with repairs and restorations.

Back on the board itself, it's been going great ! It loves a wall and loves the bowl. Draws a very clean sharp line and cuts back beautifully. Good in smaller stuff and handles some real size too.

You can get two fins for approx$25 airfreight from Trues Ames for far less total what they cost here.

Just sayin'

thanks tootr... though huie's price was fair. and i appreciate his efforts. and i'd rather give my $ to some fellow peeps in preference to a larger company (nothing against them) but want to keep things "grass roots" and all that re: the singley. it's not about money in this instance..

Yeah i can dig that sentiment.

But when a Greenough4c bought here costs close to 40% more than from the US, also theres stuff you just cannot find here in Oz. eg bamboo bonzer fin.
