terrible habit formed during spell

Post by trm85 » Wed Aug 25, 2010 9:42 am

All,

I've just started surfing again after two years, and on the weekend I've found myself looking down at my board on take off and invariably resulting in me losing control of my board after about 5-10 seconds.

I'm aware of it after the wave, but during I seem to trapped in this very beginner thing to do.. Any ideas how to counter this, or has anyone else ever experienced this after a large spell?

/tm

Practice practice practice mate. When you do it enough times to allow it to become comfortable, you probably won't feel the need to look at anything except where you want to head on the wave. You want the pop-up and take-off to feel like second nature.

Practice practice practice :)

Trm perhaps I was a little excessive

Hope is not all lost yet, just take cappy's advice. Sounds like you're just a bit rusty on the old pop up. Give it time and you'l cone good.

Everything comes good after a couple of cones
What's the difference between Elizabeth Warren & Kamala Harris?

One's pretending to be an Indian & the others pretending she isn't!

The Zen approach. You need to not focus for that instant. You need to be of the wave... as opposed to on it. Try humming as you paddle for a wave, I've heard it can solve all manner of bad habits, except for standing on your leash the instant your feet land on the board.

I tried this humming approach for my road rage habit and it worked a treat :D

I did however become one with the footpath for breif moment as my trance like state overwhelmed me. :?

More info needed before I pass judgement

In what context was that said & who said it?

If it was a drug counsellor, then that's understandable. :P

If it was Joe public, you should of screamed - "Yes, I am high on speed & I'm feeling quite violent, so I advise that you FCUK OFF BEFORE I RIP YOUR FCUKING HEAD OFF & SHIT DOWN YOUR NECK, HONKY!"
Mate on other side of the world. It was 4am and he was asking WTF i was doing up so late via facebook. Of note, some of the preceding status comments may have a part to play in it as well...I fear this was a statement built up after months of observations
