Suggestions for a trip to Perth in July??

Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for someone taking a trip to Fremantle in early July. I will be traveling down to that area and I'm looking for suggestions on a couple of things.
I am bringing a couple of boards, but I didn't even think to bring a suit. Any suggestions on where I might be able to rent one at? All of mine are back in California and I'm not up for buying a new one.
Is the water really 12 degrees? I'm guessing you guys surf with booties and everything.
Also, I know that it kind of sounds weird, but I'm looking to find some surf buddies to hang with. Maybe just someone to help me find a spot to paddle out at. I'm from San Diego, CA and just stopping through for a couple of days. Can anybody help??
