Surf spots Cairns south to Mackay?
Anyone found a break in the reef or a small island offshore in NQ?

I remember seeing an article in SL years ago where a bunch of guys chartered a boat out to the GBR and scored some pretty nice 4-6 foot barreling perfection in the middle of nowhere, just them and a shitload of reef sharks... I'd say if you had the time to go looking you'd find waves out there, sounds like a cool adventure too I mean, here in Adelaide, Kangaroo Island gets good waves and stops most of the swell from reaching into the Gulf. So wouldn't the GBR be in the same kind of situation?
The GBR is 2,000 miles long and 40-200 miles offshore so you'd have to cover a heap of territory on the right day! Somewhere along this stretch there's going to be a wave. The bits I've seen are not like the reefs of Fiji or Tahiti where there are "beaches" of coral with rights and lefts peeling off. It's more like a surge or a washing machine. But there must be somewhere that lines up the swell!
