G'day
If this topic already exists I apologise.
Any body got one(or two)? Is it still there? Did you seek treatment or just resign yourself to life
looking baked 24/7?

Re: Surfer's Eye (Pterygium)
I've gotta get mine looked at, I've got them in both eyes but one is worse than the other and very raised. Dr Anothony Maloof has been recommended to me by a close mate who is a well regarded surgeon himself. Is he any good Saltman?
Re: Surfer's Eye (Pterygium)
Thanks Saltman, I'm in Sydney, north side. Happily turned out to be a misdiagnosis from the GP, Specialist assures me its a little ulcer and its already stated fading away with lube eye drops a few times a day. I'm relieved, but its made me a wary of developing one in the future. Short of wearing unsightly seaspecs do you have any tips for prevention, like drops or spray or something pre surf?

Re: Surfer's Eye (Pterygium)
Thanks Salty . Good to hear about Anthony. He is in fact a family friend. He just operated on my brothers eye after my brother suffered a shocking eye infection that almost cost him his eye. Anthony did a great job.
Re: Surfer's Eye (Pterygium)
No worries. I am booking in to see him shortly. My Pterygium is giving me grief. He operated on my brother last week. They fish together, if you mention it to Anthony he will know who you are talking about.
Re: Surfer's Eye (Pterygium)
Im booked in to have mine removed with Anthony Maloof. Its giving me too much grief.
Apparantly if you get the eye grafted ie. they remove the ptyerigium and then graft in some tisssue from another 'clean' part of the eye, the rate of re growth is very low (less than 5% I think).
In years gone past they used to just cut the bastard out but not graft. The rate of re growth was much higher as I understand it.

Re: Surfer's Eye (Pterygium)
Had the pterygium removed yesterday. It was a nasty one so I'm glad it's gone. The surgery was a piece of piss, a little uncomfortable today but way better than I thought it would be. With the graft the chance of it coming back is 3% or less. Just need to stay out of the water for up to 2 weeks.
