Should I go to Bali next week
I have to take 2 weeks holidays next week (have built up too much rec leave) and I was just browsing the net and I can probably got to bali for 8 or so nights next wednesday for under a grand - reckon I should go for a few waves? I'd be by myself.

Problem!?
Sounds to me like you're looking for excuses not to go. Perhaps you need to take a leap outside your comfort zone, me laddo.
If you've got a passport, just book the tickets and get the danged injections. You can get appointments on short notice at the Travellers Medical And Vaccination Centre (at least it used to be called that) in the city here in Sydney.
There ain't gonna be no surf here for most of that time, so you've got nothing to lose. The clothing's cheap, so you might be able to win some favours with the missus if you go armed with her sizes, and you'll enjoy yourself. Haggle like mad - it's annoying at first, but once you realise its expected it becomes a bit of fun. Think of it as practicing your negotiation skills.
Get yourself the lonely planet guide to Bali - I found it very helpful.
Don't ever drink the water, make sure you shrinkwrap all your baggage. Other than that it's a pretty low risk destination.

If the missus thinks your okay to go,go.
I remember years ago selling an old car for $700 bucks and I thought hey thats a ticket to bali. It was a while ago. Still had a current passport and a few days later I was surfing Ulus with five people on my birthday
Absolutely no money. $200 bucks I think. I had to do it real cheap and use local buses to get everywhere for two weeks. The locals really showed how great they can be when they realised I had no money. Some very real hospitality.
The only hassle was having to watch every last cent for a week.Ended up having to bludge a lift to the airport with a guy from WA. I arrived back in Sydney with about $1.50.
Its great to travel on your own. It makes you a lot more resourceful.
Do it.

go for sure.
i've never been to bali but travelled lots and theres a kind of reverse murphys law at work. the more room there is for things to go wrong the more they work out right and in ways you could never plan.
travelling with mates is better than on your own but when youre alone you got more scope to go with whats happenning.
travel light, stay mobile and go.
