Status of New Real Surf site?

Post by Thud » Mon Aug 30, 2021 9:12 pm

Hi Trevor,

What is the status of the Real Surf site changes please?

Have discussions with the site owner finished and what is the outcome please.

As a member it would be good to know and what the continuing governance will look like. For example, will you be a Administrator or Moderator and will you continue to elect Moderators and Administrators? Or will there be a voting system?

Thanks

Thud

Nothing has changed.
As Jimmy has said several times, there is no intention to change anything.

Just preserve what we've got.

Three people were given Mod and Admin access to allow them to assess any possible improvements.
Apart from adjusting the sign up process marginally to make approvals more manageable, (thanks Legion), everything is unchanged.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

To follow up on Thud's query, are there any plans in the works for increasing the number and frequency of TITS available ?

In that case isn’t it time Jimmy’s moderator privileges were revoked. Legion clearly has advanced tech skills so it makes sense he remains for future developments.

Thanks for your efforts behind the scenes, Jimmy. They are appreciated.

Thud,. It's not gonna happen.
Jimmy was and is the driving force behind the move to keep Realsurf up and running.
He handled the discussions with Don and did that with tact and professionalism.

He's an integral part of Realsurf for the future.

Trev, if you and Jimmy are making the calls on this site then there is no future.

Trev, you're running Real Surf like its your small business. It's not.

You are acting like the owner by hiring new managers, playing favorites and actively repelling any suggestions of democracy.

I suggest RS has a AGM of sorts where by two moderators are elected from the member group. The members must have 5 years tenure. The members may serve as a moderator until the next AGM. Then we nominate and vote again.

Statements like "Jimmy is here to stay he.... is the future of real surf" only amplifies the need to break down this small business owner model that you are perpetuating.

I'm happy with the way things are bar the governance.

If Jimmy wants to take a role dealing with Don fine. Legion deals with licensing, tech upgrade etc....fine. That's operational and leaning toward site ownership and the daily run.

However, moderating is governance. Governing people within a group; power should be nominated and elected.

And if that was put to a vote that would be fair.

An AGM.

Name me one other web forum which has votes for mods/ admin?

Thud, for at least 10 years I have been offering Moderator access to anyone who was interested.

Web forums generally have an owner/ administrator (that would be Don), and he or she will allocate others to support where needed.

And guess what?
Don is on record as saying he's happy for me to run the site and he has no problems with the other three.

I’ve no problem with you being Chair. But the electing of mods needs to taken out of your hands.

Just because other sites have a model why would we follow that? Who cares. Let the people speak. If everyone is happy with the current arrangement I’ll roll with that but, I’m not.

I get the feeling all these new members that haven’t made a post yet are all thud and now he has the numbers he’s asked for a spill to overthrow Trev and co.

Very cunning, thudster
