I look at it as a bit of a novelty when it comes up in my Facebook Feed. Not much bearing on going surfing.

That 3m shark in Avalon yesterday was scaring a lot of surfers, chased a few people out including up at Whaley. LA helicopter and loads of lifeguards on jet skis out looking for it etc.

Get the odd shark around here. Obviously nothing like up the North Coast, of course. That’s serious business.

Seems a shark might hang around for a few weeks and bail. There were a couple of seals in the line up for a while. They left, the shark left.

There was a big Tiger shark hanging around close to shore at Copa last year as well.

No one seems to get hysterical about it. Additionally, there’s no netting etc so the local peeps seem to just go with the flow.

Now that Loofy has started lurking around the area, they're thinking of renaming it Sperm Whale Beach.

People still swim in the actual Little Bay. For those not familiar it’s a very little bay with a relatively small gap between the two little headlands. Made famous by Christo wrapping the headland in the 60s. Not many beaches in that vicinity and the population in the area has expanded dramatically over the last ten years. About the only thing out there used to be the Tropical Diseases Quarantine Centre.

I went there to visit someone who had lost their spleen as a result of some disease. About 1985. True story.

Always nice when you get home from a surf and find out from Dorsal there was a shark there.

Well clearly Dorsal is the problem.

I didn't know of any shark sightings before Dorsal.

Well, yeah. I wouldn’t know otherwise……unless I saw it of course.

Imagine if the sharks had an app called Morsel ... Bondi would be like an all you could eat multicultural buffet.

Would you like beans with that ?

Plenty of delectable morsels swimming out near the shark bouys without worrying about a gnarly old specimen like me.

It’s a week old, but Nick wrote a good piece on the Little Bay fatality and the lack of govt shark attack prevention that preceded it.
