First fatality in Sydney in quite a while. 4.5 mtr White Pointer apparently at Little Bay.
First fatal attack since 1963 (which was in Middle Harbour).

I was surfing at The Bra today. Just around the corner. Haven’t really believed how far out cross the bay swimmers swim at Eastern Suburbs Beaches for quite a while.

Tagged bull shark had been at Kiama yesterday. Eastern Suburbs today. Not the culprit though.
Definitely prefer to be more than 10 kms away from a 4.5 mtr man eating shark.

I dont think it was a fisherman who fell in, it was a swimmer

Yeah, doing laps between the heads I think. Makes me think, I pretty much grew up in the ocean and sharks weren't ever a second thought. Now? Bit different

Shark nets have been used in NSW since 1937, they are rolled out at 51 popular beaches between Newcastle and Wollongong from September to April each year.

Before the nets were in place there were at least 50 deaths in NSW, mainly in Sydney (IIRC).

Poor guy, so heavy.

I wonder how many times that swimmer did that crossing? Possibly 100's if they were an everyday-for-years kinda ocean swimmer.

I guess you just never know out there. From all accounts ( I haven't seen footage) the shark came from below. Possible seal attack.

Big whites don't usually eat people, the proportion of bone to fat is just too high. Most deaths are just a curiosity nibble to determine if their prey is edible - unfortunately they get disembowelled or bleed to death from severed arteries

Small juveniles would though.

other way around Cranked.

I recommend reading the coroner reports of the WA and SA attacks which were mostly from adult whites.

full or partial consumption is common, contrary to popular belief.

And let’s see what happens with the >500 2-3 metre juveniles tagged in NSW over the next few years.

I wonder if there was lot of burley in the water from the fisho's which contributed to the presence of the shark?
