Firewires yes, the original surftechs no, they have way more flex and recovery that poly with a stringer.

Don't know of any guns though in the original construction.

I agree. I’ve got a few and a few polys of course. I gather the wood veneer ones didn’t last as well because I never see them around or advertised on Gumtree. Much more chance of yellowing, foam collapse and becoming more brittle with poly boards. Particularly if you leave them in the sun of course. Very happy for everyone to abandon tuflite boards.

Well made 70s single fins look way better than 25 year old surf techs.

If they have been carefully stored away from sunlight and heat. Most have to be reglassed. Not many around.
Don’t know where you’re getting the anti surf tech opinion from. They are painted and pretty bulletproof.
Easy to repair and look like new. I’ve got one that had a massive fin chop but you would have to look to find it.
Anyway as I said very happy you have that opinion. I encourage people not to buy them.

I regularly see Surftechs that are 20 years old or more in close to perfect condition.

rare to even see a surf tech at all these days.

They pretty much went extinct.

I don't think I saw a single one during my day at the Superbank.

I see them on Gumtree and a local surf shop that has a lot of secondhand boards, very rare to see one wherever I surf. Owners often asking around $550-650 for a 20 year old board in near perfect condition, and getting it.

The real innovations used on Surftechs were the use of a mold instead of shaping, and the super tough Divinicel wrap of the entire board.

I sold a mint condition Wayne Lynch for $300. I’d had it for nearly 10 years.
I thought that was cheap.
I’ve also got a mal made around the same time. Not tuflite. Same construction as the Southpoint Boards.
You know Bonga Perkins, etc. it’s got wooden panels under the other layers. Super strong.
Just needs a touch up here and there where the paint has chipped.

the shape was fine but that horrible sound of water slapping on PVC and poor handling in big surf was a deal breaker.

Just an all around horrible feeling under foot in anything over 2ft.

Not one of my favourites. I was looking for the kind of midlength everyone is producing these days. It was 7’6” but would have been much better for me at 7’.

Yep, wood is good. Fcuking heavy though. I love trad mals but they are just too heavy to lug around. Great to ride.
