Ha.
First two years I surfed was always at Kirra.
Only place I could "borrow" boards from.

Kirra SLSC. :)
Yep, Kingscliff had a stack of V Bottoms in the Surf Life Saving Club. A whole bunch of older guys stopped surfing when boards dropped down to under 6’. A few grommets used to borrow them including Ray Gleave.

Mine were pre V bottoms.
All 9'6" to 10'.
Great stable platforms for a skinny little kid to learn on.

I did have an 8'6" Woosley V bottom which I scored in 1986. Rode like a dream.
Sold it when we moved back to Qld. Fuckin idiot me. #*!

But I recently found it again. It's now in the hands of a collector in the Alex Mal Club. He's promised me first option if he decides to sell it. Which he might because most of his collection is a lot older.

A friend had a good old one in great Nick I tried onetime at Avoca about 15 years ago. Huge scimitar flex fin and bladey rails. Kind of took off then did nothing when you put it on rail. The deep V.
Back in the day there were Carey Cool Companions and Graeme Merrins door shaped models.

My Woosley turned beautifully.

I knew both Graeme Merrin and Mick Carey pretty well.
Merrin is in Hawaii.
Don't know where Mick is now but he was certainly subject to some fairly well substantiated rumours about his private life.

Shit, never heard that. Knew Graeme Merrin’s ex missus pretty well when we were in High School. Bought a few boards off him over the years.

Jim’s quite chubby but he’s also quite short, so it kinda evens out

Long and thin goes too far in and doesn’t please the ladies,
Short and thick does the trick and is good for making babies

That’s just my altruistic self deprecating humour. Just trying to be encouraging to Jimny. In reality I’m built with a dick like an anaconda that has a girth like a leg of ham. :-D-:

Just finished a surf with a couple of British commandos who are here training with Marines up the coast a bit at Camp Lejeune. Nice guys, from near Cornwall. One could surf okay, his mate was a newbie.
