Some of JJF turns in the final reminded me of a white hot Tom Curren.

Nah, he's in a league of his own. He has basically remade Margarets as a comp wave.

I said he reminded ME of Tom Curren with some of his carving turns. I didn't say I think JJF is as good as Tom Curren, what do you guys think?

Besides Curran is a legend. JFF has won 7 WSL/ASL events in 8 seasons. He's amazing, right now, but he's no Slater or Curren.....yet.

I came late to the Tom Curren is God Concept. At the time he was competing I was a patriotic Aussie backing The Shorter Toms power surfing and Aussie surfers in general. It's mainly his after comp persona that has impressed me. Some seriously good alternative surfing.

Well that's a loaded response, Thudster. Guess I should have bought some, eh?

Because you're the quintessential true blue Aussie ocker, Beanpole.

Because you've got that nationalistic air about you when it comes to surfing. You know, the good old days of Australian surfing and all that. Nothing wrong with it, just comes across that way to me. There's plenty who are like that.

Thought about all my boards.
I've had one made in Thailand Cult fish that was clearance $250 brand new when the Torquay store closed down.
Everything else has been oz made.

Mine too. Although I reckon I've had a lot less than most on here.
Just one O/S board. A GSI Modern Longboard. Not my best choice. Bought for a purpose. It wasn't up to it. Now gone.

Nah, you missed the.....used to....bit. I think the current crop of Australian Competitive Surfers are pretty ordinary and I'm definitely open to good surfing and boards from anywhere. Definitely back in the day....but then I saw most of the best surfers in Australia surfing fairly regularly when we were tops internationally. A lot of them lived and surfed down the road.

So I take it you don't see yourself like that.

Not old enough to experience that golden generation of Lynch, Peterson, Richards, PT, Rabbit etc...a bit of a bummer really.

It's an interesting thought though. In standard short boards why buy a Pyzel over a JS, a Lost over a DHD etc.... They pretty much do the same f@cking thing. Bit different when it comes to specialty board e.g. Brewers etc..

There's a lot of difference in design right now. Golden age.
