Great pic cranked, have witnessed that myself a few times, it's fleeting.
Obscured by cloud. I've probably only seen it a dozen or so times during all my stays in Bali

This just reminded me of the time we drove out to Dreamland to have a look before it was completed. The big statue was already there. There was just one other van and I think they might have been tripping. They all said, “Look up at the sun.”
Not usually a good idea but it had a rainbow halo around it. Presumably from all the jet fuel in the atmosphere.

Yep. Hat Head isn’t the easiest place to get an ambulance either. I don’t think they even have an SLSC do they?
Pretty sure they meant Crescent. Killick Beach stretches from Crescent right around to Hat Head. It’s in Hat Head National Park.

Lennox been onshore but contestable all long weekend with more to come and offshore by the end of the week.
Would have been better than Newy in this period.
I wonder what the WSL would have done about sharks since drones would have been completely useless with the water quality.
I'm not worried about them out there but to run an event there bit hard to give confidence to the surfers about risk particularly the surfers that have already shown they don't want to surf with any shark risk.

Different view to buddy's from Steve (?) over on Swellnet:

"man, they would have been so skunked at Lennox.
hasn't been a surf day all waiting period so far. end to end onshore and chocolate brown floodwaters."

It has been raining and onshore but I think there's been fun surf that the pros would have ripped up and should be some good surf ahead within the waiting period.

The water quality hasn't been that bad north of flatty the last week in my experience, brown though.

Newy was decent for the contest today and a better location for viewing and having the comp in general.

The pass has been way better than Lennox though.
You could never foresee that you could run a whole shortboard contest at the pass within a waiting period, crazy.

Many of you will remember otway1949.
He and his wife moved to Austria a few years ago. (Home for her).

River surfing is a big thing over there.
Not content with the natural flows, they actually build river waves like this one.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

The Munich one was the first I heard about. Didn't realize it's also man made.
Interesting history here. (Bloody goat boaters)

1st heat of the day in Newcastle, 3 waves ridden in the 1st 16 minutes. It amazes me they flog a dead horse with this format.

Most viewers seem to have found the wave pool comps boring.
What’s the best thing about pro surfing compared to other sports. The vagaries of the ocean.

Gee whiz, the rumour is true. Mick Fanning will be competing as a wildcard in the WSL’s Rip Curl Narrabeen Classic.
Not very forward looking. It will capture a few eyeballs though.

Louis Hynd and Jacob Willcox (Rip Curl’s other male aussie surfers who aren’t already competing) will be a bit disappointed.
Of course, Steve says Mick still outsurfs the current WSL surfers at Lennox.
