Agree Steve. On the surfing and judging. The wave kills all our pools though. Makes Melbourne look like a washy shorebreak.

It's like watching paint dry.

Surfing is about man vs. nature and knowing nature in some way shape or form will win. Thats the beautiful thing about it.

Wave pools are akin to Sir Edmund Hillary scaling the wall in a climbing gym.

Cheapens it. But of course, surfing always loves to cut its own throat.

It's just people trying to make money- no different to any other human activity.

Yes, you summed it up.

And selling copy to boot. You going to try and make a silk purse from a sow's ear?

And point being of course, they don't make money.

Have you got any stats on the commercial success of this event? just to make it interesting.

Otherwise its pretty much reporting on people playing in a water park, right?

Just read it. Enjoyed it. Especially pointing out the ridiculous early hype by gravy train journos (cue Foamy posting a note sticking up for Carroll being not guilty of trough feeding).

6 years ago the then CEO said they were in progress on 6 Slater wave tubs.

Not one has turned a sod.

Edit up top. Enjoyed the article. Truth telling.

In this day and age you can't pick on the fat kid in class without someone getting very upset. Well done, "Tub" in this case applicable.

No way ... the internet blows up when the Brazzers lose. There's been death threats for Ewing already.

Still surfed way better. Even Steve Shearer said so. So you can’t argue with that.

Johnny Boy Gomes weighed into the Surf Ranch Fiasco. Saying Italo should have won and if they have a half season cut off for under performing surfers they should have the same for Judges.

Name the most interesting person in surfing for the last 25 years and why. I actually cannot think of one.

I think people in modern surfing are so boring and have not much to say. I think that’s why surfing may suffer commercially.

I think Mick Fanning might be an intelligent guy but, poorly educated. Adding, he had something to say until Stab baited him into over reacting and him using the “Jew” slur. After his remorseful apology he’s been very corporatised.

While I’m on the topic. It would be nice if there was a little gonzo in surf journalism. That Chas guy has kind of gotten old and responsible and rides mid lengths and San Diego types seem to rule. Journalism isn’t about reciting history, that’s what historians do. I want to be intrigued but, mainly I want to be entertained.

In fact while I type the most interesting and irreverent person in surfing is a longboarder, Joel Tudor (ironically from San Diego). Yeh, he’s sort of rock n roll where as the others are more K Pop.

Can someone penetrate the miasma of mediocrity?

Johnny is far from relevant and his opinion even less so.
