I suppose the development of the esky lid marked the demise.
I've voiced this theory in the past, others disagree with my synopsis, but whether it was the death knell or not, I think its fair to sat that it would have had some bearing on the demise.
Interestingly: a new, properly affiliated and incorporated kneeboard surfing club recently launched in South East Queensland/Northern NSW, has 30 financial members on the books. Thats quite phenomenal considering.

A pity Fairfax sacked all the subbies and Malcolm wrote 2020 instead of 21 and Oahu instead of Maui.
“Professional women have surfed occasional restricted events at Pipeline. Stephanie Gilmore won the first, a novelty ‘Duel for the Jewel’, a four-woman heat with Wright, Coco Ho and Alana Blanchard, in 2010. One-off women’s events continued until Wright won the 2020 Maui Pro at Pipeline after it had been moved there mid-competition, following a shark attack at their original venue in Oahu.”

Can't practice there because it's crowded with MEN and don't want to put in the time to earn a place in the lineup because MEN.
'For Wright and other women surfing the Billabong Pro, it will be a bit like Ash Barty stepping onto centre court for a Wimbledon or Australian Open final yet, because she is a woman, never having been able to practise there. Minjee Lee competing in a British Open at St Andrews yet never having got a tee time on the Old Course. Jessica Fox competing for an Olympic gold medal on a canoe slalom course for the first time – because, as a woman, she couldn’t get on for any trial runs.'

Yeah, all that, but why write "women will surf Pipeline for the first time in competition" when that isn't the case at all ... click bait ?

I wouldn’t paddle out for exactly the same reason lol
Too hectic.
But yeh, top tier women should crack in.
A few local woman chargers do.
I was watching footage of Cal Robson the other day out at backdoor/off the wall taking off on sketchy sections probably cos they were the only scraps he could get being a blowin with probably not a lot of time out there.

“which represents the first time women will surf a full world championship event at the break alongside the men.”

I wouldn't paddle out due to lack of ability and courage, let alone the crowd.
Just seems odd that Tyler appears to be open that she's not willing to put the time in to earn a place in the line up yet complains that she wouldn't get a wave out there because it's "a sausage fest".
Odd article.

I would go out without the crowd up to 6ft and shoulder hop and pull back on most of the waves and probably not get barreled once.

I paddled out in the dark there once on a 6-8ft day and got dropped in on by Brazilian chicks on boogie boards.

I don't mind some of his writing, but that piece seems lazy and ill-conceived ... like eyes ed beef or, typical click-bait journalism.

I like it when my mum talks to me about surfing based on all the Fairfax articles she’s read on it.
It’s never very accurate.
