Saw a review of the Edinburgh Wave Pool. Actually looked pretty good…..

Third surf in Geger lefts. 2-4ft with random 5-6ft sets.
Indo glass.

4-5 backpackers on the end bowl, no-one up the reef where I sat.

Bali still feels reassuringly analogue- you pay with cash, people give you little paper receipts. Walking past semi-decrepit blocks with dogs and monkeys and those brown Balinese cows with doe eyes and sacred demeanours.

Only problem is the plastic pollution.

I had no idea I would be surfing uncrowded waves in Bali in 2024.

Looks like I'll have to hit Nusa Dua in the wet season. I new it was a good time for waves, but assumed it was crowded. I'm never been there from mid Nov to mid April.

It also has good, quiet back roads to Ulus

Well, if he's lucky Steve might score Sanur, the wave that Shaun Tomson called the best right hander he's ever surfed.

I got it really firing with my mate Paul back in the 80s. It was big and only two out. As we paddled out both surfers came in.

Paul caught a few, I held back. He said the take off is easy, I'll tell you when to paddle. Then when you catch it you've got about 30m to pull out of the first barrel if it looks like its closing out. But don't enter the second barrel as it is closing out.

It was just as he said and we had wave after wave.

Got both barrels on later surfs... its a fantastic wave

This is a brilliant rephrasing of "shifting goalposts". I can see steve adopting it everywhere.

I'll paddle down and surf the right this arvo.

Some of the lefts were like Cloudbreak this morning.

Only problem is the water is so damn warm you cook out there.

Rabbit said it was the best wave on Bali. I think Mitchell Rae might have said similar.

From what I’ve heard, Sanur is packed with aggressive local regulars who are all over it when it’s on.

Of course, just like everywhere in Bali.

Surf-forecast has been forecasting quite small swells lately

A mild strain, it still bloody hurts, should be pretty ok in 3 or 4 days.

Reminds me of Realsurf:
