I'll second that - Mad Wax was the kickstart to my grommethood inspiration. Geeezz.. how I wanted a block of that wax... And how many people went out and bought GANGajang's album just because of that movie? I could replay each scene in my head heading down the coast - that's gotta be the best amp-material!!Clif wrote:MAD WAX , best acting EVER!!!!!!
Are you thinking of Strike Force? That was another gem. Great soundtrack too!tiger wrote:Other classic vids with sc stuff in em include a piping hot one made in the late 80's (forgot the name)

a few of the early Billabong movies were good too.
the old Bruce Brown movies in black & white are hilarious, and a good surfing history lesson as well.

Storm Riders and Kongs Island
Morning of the Earth (Classic Good Vibes animation)
Many Classic Moments
Green Iguana .. and ....
Big Wednesday
The South Swell Summer 1962
In the old days I remember a wind that would blow down from the canyons.
It was a hot wind called a santana and it carried with it the smell of warm
places. It blew the strongest before dawn across the point. My friends and
I would sleep in our cars and the smell of the offshore wind would often
wake us and each morning we knew this would be a special day.

Reading through the thread can't help but think we are spoilt for choice. Hard to pick a top 5 or even 10 but you are pretty safe watching anything by:
Alby Falzon
Jack Johnson & the Malloys
Jack McCoy
BTW - if the debate is gonna deteriorate into discussions about Blue Crush and Pointbreak, how can we go past North Shore or In Gods Hands? Pure pus in anyones language.
can't step twice.....

'Strikeforce' was a film that I made in 1988 with Tim Bonython and maybe available in the not too distant future on DVD.
The problem with a lot of the films from the past that you can get in the surf shops these days is as mentioned earlier is that they are pirate copies and as such may not be as good a representation of the original film.
as mentioned by 'Bunker' someone up north has been pirating these films for years and a lot of the filmmakers from the states are onto him.
Bunker Sprecles seems to know whats going on and is OK with it.
Please Bunker enlighten us some more.

The ol' pirate Hoole has a secret stash (a man after my own mana) of fine old celluloid transposed onto fine VHS (whatever happened to Beta?) and those new fangled DVD (dick vagina's daily?) things.
I recall him doing some time on the Rock with Jack (not Geoff) McCoy way back when a single fin and a lota' foam was the weapon-ah....Dick Brewer (not Hoole) now there was a man with the mana.
As for ye' ol' pirate-the man's a carpetbagger in Kombi.
And now Bonython the Python-hmmmmm man can turn a wooden nickle into a crisp buck with 3 cups........pea in the pod.
Peace Out
You just can't go past NORTH SHORE for the cheesy factor
I really really love that movie.
for surf vids:
Surfers of Fortune - perfect mentawai's, great soundtrack\
Momentum under the influence - even seppos can surf!
7 Days 7 Slaves - Ozzy's footage was mindblowing
G-Land 97 - $10 bucks, epic waves, great soundtrack.

Uther,
I don't have anything of Balmoral other than the pix you've seen at Surfection of Wyargine Pt. and Grotto Pt. I could have last week if the swell had swung just a little more. Did you get down there and check it out?
Bunker,
That person of the white kombi persuasion that travels around the countryside selling those surf films does not have the rights to sell some of those older films that he sells on video/dvd!
There are, as I mentioned, a few really pissed off surf film makers in the USA that have been asking questions and sending serious letters to the H/ M camp! The reason is again that they have been doing it thinking that the owners of the films don't care and will not be able to take any action against them.
It's not funny any more that they do this as it takes money. food, life from the people that originally made the films. And what really sucks is that these people used to make a living making there own films and now they are only capable of ripping off their peers!
Also Bonython is a story in himself. he is not in the piracy game but is just as much a character. He is making good films and has a cottage industry running from his home and employs people!
And yes he could turn a wooden anything! into $$$
