Surfers aren’t the common man steve, they’re selfish cnuts as you very well know. I’m sure that you benefit indirectly and directly from Lennox’s existing tourism marketing so it smacks of rank hypocrisy when you get all bitey because it’s the wrong kind of tourism

People don’t tend to move to Lennox for noisy American corporate events. They do like country markets and “organic” local events. Tourists do keep things ticking along, but the place doesn’t live or die on maximising tourist numbers.

Maybe not, but it’s a piece of the jigsaw I’m sure. My point is that steve and his merry band of nimbys took it upon themselves to speak on behalf of a community of 8,000 based on the wishes of less than 10% of that as expressed in a no doubt emotive and restrictively distributed petition. His response to my plea to consider the local businesses says it all really. They’re clearly the wrong type of community so their views don’t count

I thought I said that. An old school friend who's a retired senior Canberra public servant lives in a white box up near the point. Doesn't surf. Another old buddy lived there for years and brought his kids up there. 100% surf hound. I guess there's pressure as Byron goes burko.

Yeah I agree. England has about 8% of the land and 3% of the waterways accessible.
Scandinavia has everyman's right you can basically go anywhere. In Sweden I think you're still allowed to gather a handful of berries and a hatful of mushrooms wherever you go.

I was primarily referring to the Inclosure Acts whereby common use rights to common lands were ceased when the land was privatised.

That never really happened here in Aus.

I can walk outside my house and be on crown land where I can collect food etc etc.

Right of access to forage, Hunt, fish are very much more restricted in the UK, Right to Roam laws notwithstanding.

Where?

I mean it's an interesting question.
Lennox has explicitly and comprehensively rejected the WSL.
As has Angourie, albeit not so explicitly.

I doubt whether any other North Coast point would be welcoming. South Coast reefs? Don't think so.

South Australia has been hostile to the WSL overtures, as has NWWA.

I'd be very interested to see whether Burleigh Heads would welcome back a CT.

Other parts of the world?

I'd love to see a high quality poll of the North Shore residents/surfers to get an accurate gauge on community support for the WSL CT events there.
My understanding is support is far from unanimous.

These things have never been put to the test.

To my knowledge the Lennox Petition is the only hard numerical data we have and thirty times more people were opposed to it than in favour.

Capetown rejected pro surfing.

My understanding is that after the Quiksilver Masters was held in Bundoran in 2001 the Irish Surfing Assocation rejected full scale pro surfing comps, and that is why Ireland, despite an abundance of world class surf is CT free.

You would think a Bali leg of the Tour would be a complete no-brainer for the Tour. Back to back at Keramas and Ulus.
I believe the Ulus village heads rejected CT surfing there.

Why is there no functioning Indo leg of the Tour?

If Fiji loves pro surfing so much, what happened to Cloudbreak?

Supposedly dropped due to a lack of Govt support according to then CEO Sophie Goldschmidt.


America can't support a single coastal CT.
