Kawaii rhymes with Hawaii

Post by Donweather » Mon Nov 29, 2010 9:15 pm

Well with 8 days out from the start of the waiting period and I hate to say it, but the North Pacific looks rather lacklustre. There's a pretty intense storm progged to form up near the Kamchatka Peninsula, just to the west of the Aluetian Islands, however due a damn large blocking high in the North Pacific ocean, this low/storm is pushed too far north, thus inhibiting the fetch over water.

After that there's another nice looking storm pushing off the Russian continent, but it get's steered to the north, possibly as a consequence of the La Nina jet stream?

Either way, it isn't looking good for the start of the Pipe Masters.

How about Rover rhymes with it's all over?

I know what you're saying Don but I sorta think the masters will be an anti climax.. Unless AI does a jesus and rises from the dead or they give Bruce AI's singlet and they increase the waiting period out of respect for Andy...

Is Parko gonna get a start? I'd like to see him up there in the finals against Slater.

Latest GFS model is finally showing something contestable with a nice pulse (nothing huge) of radially spread N'ly groundswell coming from a deep low pressure system right up in the Gulf of Alaska early next week. The first pulse from this system should arrive around Wednesday (Hawaii time) with what looks to be an even better pulse arriving later next week (Thurs/Fri Hawaii time).

Fingers crossed she comes off!!!

Yeah I've heard that in the commentary. From what I've heard this morning Pipe needs a west swell and this one's a north swell so i guess it's similar to a south swell in SE Qld!!

No, the north swell still hits the NS and there's plenty of waves around. A S swell in SE qld just screams straight past the coast ... Pipe doesn't line up barely at all in a north swell, and backdoor/ off the wall are hollower & faster. Maybe better? I dunno, I never surfed them enough to tell.

I'm pretty sure the further south you go from gas chambers the better the waves get. Sunset inside bowl can be all time. And rockies in mid size north swell is probably the best wave on the whole NS

Are they still running an ASP comp next year? Has the news of the sponsor pull out for one year to breathe life back in the sport become public yet?
