I like to wear goggles in the surf. Saves on getting dry contact lenses.

Is there anything worse than unnecessary booties or rubber for perceived cold. Booties in Queensland, really?
They're for feel.
Nerve damage. Remember?
I said unnecessary
👍

Are you in California now Boo?

Santa Cruz area?
Yep. Living in San Mateo county but working in Santa Cruz. Pick a break on the way down.

Been here about a month, but had to go to Sweden for 2 weeks of that.

Hotel we stayed in the second time we hit Santa Cruz had a Jack O’Neill Bar and signed O’Niell surfboards along the corridor in the lobby. Talk about Surfie Stuff.

You can hit Mavericks. Sonoma is worth a visit if you feel like a bit of a countryside drive, history and wine. We went to the Sequoia Forest East of Santa Cruz when we were down there too. Surfed at Pleasure Point.

Those stairs at Steamer Lane look like you could get seriously smashed trying to walk up in a large swell. Guess you could just paddle down to Cowells.
I nearly got obliterated on the stairs at Jacks at high tide on a big swell earlier this year, my board took the brunt of it.

Steamer Lane on a big swell is a whole different story, I'm too old/fat to take that on

Looks fun when it’s smaller. They had a mal comp on when we were there.

My youngest daughter just got back from a trip visiting relos in California. She’s been going since she was born. She’s a bit older now and her take was she didn’t like it anymore. Mainly because of the large amount of homelessness in LA and San Francisco, the clear divisional changes magnified under Trump and the seemingly soulless existence of every day Americans. She stayed up at Santa Cruz for about the fourth time and found it was still a colder sea side pier town sprinkled with ex hippies and drug addicts. Gave it a “ok”. To note a large drug problem, her cousin died or a heroin overdose a few years back. Decent kid just a bit lost there.

Really makes no justifiable sense.

Local public school Jimmy.

The homelessness is confronting. And I'd agree with most of the other points, Thud.

I'd have to go to San Diego to do a comparison with 2006-7 when I lived there last. The bay area is nothing like Maryland, that's for sure.
Except for the rich people in ugly houses and the incomprehensible traffic.
