That Greenmount attack changed things for me and a lot of guys that I know. Before that we were always wary when surfing over the border. But after that one I realised that it can happen absolutely anywhere.
Yeh that one just made me think, oh well if it’s time it’s time.
I don’t surf little 5’10s out the back though.
Not sure if that makes a difference but I feel safer on my 6’5+ boards.

Do they think about volume in their 'dims'?

I remember some wheelchair xylophonist getting all macho about how he liked to smash absolutely heaps of Weetbix before a hard day's roofing

Just get some big eyes painted on the bottom of your board, you’ll be right.

The bank’s a bit far out but should move in over the next few weeks and then it’ll be packed and I’ll surf elsewhere again.

I’m pretty sure there’s a very valid reason you got it to yourself for 2 hours.

There was a guy out there for a bit when I got out and a few guys down the beach closer to shore.
But it just magnifies these small south swells so much better out there than anywhere else on the coast.

Box Head is about the sharkiest place I’ve surfed a few times.

I surf a few places that have had attacks around here but the sharkiest “feeling” place I’ve surfed was Pelicans in Victoria.
swvic will know it.
And lighthouse near there also felt pretty dodgy paddling across the channel.
Haven’t surfed SA or WA though.

Oh and cowrie beach next to the seal colony at Phillip island was pretty freaky.

I'd put that spot (above) as unquestionably one of the sharkiest in Oz- confirmed by tagging and ping data which shows a white shark aggregation/cruising pathway between there and Evans Head.
No of attacks and encounters confirms it.
Used to surf WA before the shark crisis there and surf Bombies around Gracetown solo without a care in the world.
I'm more careful, respectful, less cavalier now.
I surfed delightful, perfect point surf with occ. head high sets and a crowd of 6, of whom I knew all 6.
I want Nightclub Dwight dead in his grave I want the nice-nice up in blazes

Been surfing since the 60’s. Deep dark water gives me the willies these days, never used to think about it. Some of the attacks that I have details of happened in that kind of water, or on the edge of that water.
