Re: Where did you surf today ?
guaranteed there will be plenty of sharks around that bait action, I know from years of fishing from my boat around Newcastle and Central Coast. Any action that stuck around for a day or more always has a full entourage of every predator local to the area and season. Sharks, seals, penguins and all kinds of fish.

I feel fine with it- it's warm blue water and that mostly brings small whalers and lots of them.

Yeah me too, it was only a bit further out, say 7 or 800 metres from shore where there was usually a big boy down deep that would steal a small tuna from me. Closer to shore I'm OK with surfing near bait action.steve shearer wrote: ↑Thu Nov 10, 2022 11:58 amI feel fine with it- it's warm blue water and that mostly brings small whalers and lots of them.

Paddled out at Uggs Reef near Taree one time. Not many people about and as I paddled through a set wave a school of mullet came through and breached the surface heading in the opposite direction as I was about to duckdive

You said visibility was disproven by the recent spate of NNSW attacks?steve shearer wrote: ↑Thu Nov 10, 2022 11:58 amI feel fine with it- it's warm blue water and that mostly brings small whalers and lots of them.

Yeah true.
You missed the first part-warm blue water.
So those two factors coupled together, as well as the last of the whale migration and I "feel" (non-scientific) like the absolute risk of white shark encounters is lower.
Scientific data to back up feels: observing shark smart real-time data on listening station pings from tagged white sharks across North Coast buoy array.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Addendum: Most white shark pings now from Mid North Coast to Hunter, to South Coast region.
North Coast pings primarily bull and tiger sharks which reflects seasonal shift due to arrival of warm blue water.
Pers obs: I'm now seeing the typical shift to lots of small whalers when rock-fishing.

Young fella in the water telling me he had a sizeable shark swim under him yesterday. Reckons there’s the strongest smell of dead salmon up near the point. I didn’t test him on this, in fact I wondered what he meant. Was it chummed up by Sharks or throw backs from fisherman.

Well, more like where I won't be surfing.
I have been to the southern beaches in WA only a few times and its hard to score good clean waves.
I checked the surf forecasts for the south coast of WA (from Denmark to the SA border) for the next 12 days . There are 33 surf spots covered and none had offshore or side offshore winds for more than about 36 hours out of the possible 300 hours during that period.
I think the bukit would probably have the opposite.

Me too. That was just decent wind over 36 different spots over 12 days and a thousand plus Ks of coast line. I'm not going to bother seeing which ones actually had any surfable waves. You'd be lucky to get an hour I reckon and drive a 1000k to do it.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
I scored epic waves on the South Coast during my random visit there.
They get a lot of surf and if you are familiar with the coastal orientations you can work with the winds.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Great fun waves last couple days.
And the water is as crystal clean as has been in a long time.
Yesterday got a wave that I shared with a big ray.
Haven’t had that before, at least not where they’ve followed the wave the whole time.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
I paddled out on my own at Cudgen Reef one time and a manta ray jumped out of the water while I was sitting on my board.
