The crowds eased about 1pm and I got a few good waves in the end. I'm missing the Bukit endless perfection and the numerous take-off zones that spread the crowds out.

the real Aussie Pipe at Depot was off the fcuken hook today
?
You know, Depot on the south coast.

It was the “real Ozzie Pipe” I was interested in. Although being out at the one a Sumercloud Bay I was thinking it was a bit of silly name anyway.

But that picture is insane.

Thudster is down there on any swell. He was just getting cranky at Nick for blowing up his secret spot.
Never heard of it. But that is severe

Lefties, off-shores way too strong, sets over head high, regular closeout sets, 9:30am and everyone is coming in, should be great in an hour or two.

@ Steve - Consistent 6-8 foot of groundswell at south facing locations
did you get a few Iggs?
Well not at depot beach but yeah some definite size and chunk. Big shifting peaks, plenty steep and angry inside bowl section to grind off and superman dive off the back before getting pole-axed

au contraire mon ami.

thats why I'm always in here asking questions.

These south swells are confounding. Swell models have huge margins of error and I see no evidence of them improving.

I'm trying to meticulously hindcast each event and figure out why each swell did what it did. The problem, as I mentioned earlier, is getting access to granular enough actual data.
Satellite windspeed data is the best, short of ships at sea and buoy readings.

It's painstaking work.

This swell, like the last one, was a classic Depot swell.

another deepwater reef, cameras not allowed, was also massive.

Pleasant little peelers with a negotiable crowd before the wind swung.

Yep. Finally got some nice little banks for a change. It's been a long while. Not too crowded either.

No, just a thin sprinkling of locals and learners. Pretty spread out. The left really held up well for quite a while if you picked the right one.
Tuesday there was a good little right that looked packed but when you paddled over most people weren't catching any waves. About six or seven girls paddled out and then started chatting to each other. Not paying attention to the surf at all. There were two girls on mals who were getting plenty of waves and maybe one other guy.

I would love to visit Bondi for a day, a day such as Beanpole has just described. Last time I was there was in 1997, I think. Before covid my wife's parents and sister were talking about visiting Australia for their first time and we were all thinking about a big family trip. I started making a list in my mind of iconic Australian places to take them and Bondi was up there - wanted to show Mum and Dad Ben Buckler and the Icebergs pool and the Hakoah Club. Don't know if we'll make it now that the oldies are getting older and everyone's feeling vulnerable and fragile.
