I ignored crabmeats advice and went for a surf at maroubra since the nbs are off limits. My God it was dire. I think a paddle would be a better description. Doubt I'll bother again for a while

whoa Sunset's tearing a few people up today.

A couple of days ago it was really good, yesterday it was big and really good, today it's fcuking gnar gnar. There's great waves but to get them you gotta be wide awake and taking risks. First thing I saw on the cam was a busted board getting blown in at Vals reef.

Not sure Steve, there's a few sections out near Temples that can break like that, but they could be anywhere in Indo.

Tiny peelers yesterday with too many people. Looks a bit bigger today.
On closer inspection....onshore and crappy with heavy rain.

Didn't end up making that SoCal trip. Thought i would do the right thing i.e. COVID and stay local.

It is a decision I have not regretted as the run of swell in Northern California has been pretty awesome. I surfed at a beach called Private's in Santa Cruz yesterday to give my shoulders a little rest from the amount of time in the water I've had. It's mostly just a longboarders wave but it gets up and going with a bit of swell. The lack of paddling effort required on my bargain find Mick Doyle 9' board was welcomed.

Waist high wedges at another Breakwall. Couple young aboriginal kids swimming asked for a go of the board. One kid got to his knees first wave, then stood up on the second one.

Had a brown water surf with my son at a sandbar point.
the surf was picking up.

a bull shark came straight at us, surfing on a wave. he literally duck dived straight into it.

it was no biggie but we went in on the next wave.

he called it first; he said "bull shark dad"
I said "dolphin"
then as it got closer and I saw the beige-grey two-tone flank, the sideways moving tail and the squared off jaw, I said " you're right, bull shark"

Stoive. What’s with the emerald colour of the far south coast rivers?

I think a dissolved mineral gives it that colour.

Ducked out for a quick couple of waves before returning to the Big Smoke. Best conditions since last week.

I dropped my son off at his gfs place near woy woy so took my board and had a surf at umina. It was tiny of course but well protected from the wind so pretty clean. Nice

Very Langland surf today. Not the good Langland shots, the very bad.

Paddled around and got a couple of runners but eh. Used the ol’ Deus super twin I bought off Hatchnam. Still goes ok!

You’re not too fat for it jim?
Not yet mate. I’m 174cm and 74kgs though Boo will probably correct me. Haven’t ridden a twinny for ten years or so. Still would’ve preferred to get a Super Twin but it feels really nice under foot. Come to think of it. There was also a bunch of 20ish girls in tasteful swimming attire that cheered me as I came out of the water. And the lifeguard hi fived me as I ran past his tower.
