Butts, I don't now how ya done it, but I knows ya done it.
It was blowing south easterly pretty hard this morning when I left to drop the kids off and go to work around quarter to nine.
How was anywhere smooth water surface today, or was this in the afternoon? The wind did seem to swing around to the south westerly. At least I was walking back into it on the way back from lunch.
Size also really surprising. My 4 days off work consisted of 3 days of crud followed by one day of offshore crud.
Crap banks at the bra. I should go and harass the northsiders.
For those not in Sydney, what you don't see in these pics is the minus 5C wind chill factor.

Hey Butts!
Is that Boomer the Boomer that used to ride the Bommies around Long Reef during booming swells? Apparently used to paddle out to 'em (pre jet ski) and if the rescue helicopter came to check who the madman was paddling out to sea by himself, he'd hop off the board and turn it over. On the bottom was written in big red letters 'BOOMER'. And they'd know he didn't need rescuing.
I'm not making this up. I read it once.

I saw it happen... in May1997 in a huge choppy south swell I saw a large crowd of people on DY headland anxiously looking out to sea at a speck in the ocean. Apparently it was Boomer. When a rescue helicopter arrived he waved it away.2nd Reef wrote:Hey Butts!

I waited for 30 minutes but didn't see him catch any waves that day. The next Monday there was an article about him in the Manly Daily. In those days he ran a local gym.
Half the people think he's a legend and the other half think he's a nutcase.
Whatever, that's a bloody good wave he's on in the photo.
Not sure mate. Quite a while. Im mates with his son. Booma senior used to show us theses pics of him on giant waves out queensy bombie and of him free diving with large tigers.miiichael wrote:Woah how long did it take him to paddle to the german banks?Coops@DY wrote:Paddled out to German Banks.

Im all about #5. Love the foreground.
Have had many a long talk with him over the last 2 years, keep bumping into him at
various locations and ONLY when its big
The stories, the surfs, the people he used to hang out with
Just love hearing about it, still so much more to be told.
True character of the ocean
Love to be able to still surf at his age Damn fit bugger too, probably give a few
of us young'uns a run for our money STILL
