Re: Where are they now ??????
Merrick was Aus school boys champ one year ... he runs Merrick's Surf School at Noosa (red rashies) and has done for quite some years ... Brad Davis was with him but now foccusses on the sea kyak tours around the noosa points ... the surf school boys normally grab an early somewhere where it's good before heading up the beach past that break wall and teaching the pommy backpackers to get to their feet ... great blokes ...pridmore wrote:what about Merrick Davis ? he was killing it in the comps for a while...think he was up Noosa for a while

Re: Where are they now ??????
Chappy Jennings is still around cooly / tweed but doesnt surf anymore due to knee inury. That was a while ago anyway, he might be back in the water now hopefully.
I think Ross Marshall lives around cabba and still rips.

Re: Where are they now ??????
Isn't Larry Blair a chef at Terrigal? Went to the world masters a few years ago I think - when then held it in hollow lefthanders. Or perhaps that was a pipe reunion?
Is that seriously Ross Marshall playing chess?
Paul Green walked away from the contest scene early on when his dad offered to back him with a surfshop at Long Jetty. He's stuck at it and its now huge & 3 x locations. Called Slimes. Saw him once at Kiama ( ?Werri Point?) on a VERY good day and he was ripping.

Re: Where are they now ??????
I'm really struggling to believe that is Ross Marshall - looks more like a Russian Grandmaster or similar. Can someone find a picture of Ross in his Cronulla/South Coast heyday to compare?
TMC - I could be wrong, it was about 20 years ago - but I'm pretty sure that we were surfing righthanders on the southern end of Werri Beach, breaking around the point like Avoca or Dee Why does.

Larry Blair lives at Ocean Shores and Bali.turtle wrote:Isn't Larry Blair a chef at Terrigal?
Has married one of Mandiras' (warung owner at Canggu) daughters and has a couple of kids to her.
He's doing well and surfs bloody excellently, especially at over-sized Outside Corner.
Still rides McCoys.
Bylesy had a few lost years but is hooked up with a nice lady, has a brand new son (sorry Jed can't remember his name) and is operating road side market stalls in the Byron area selling boardies etc etc.
Just picked up 2 pairs for 30 bucks the other day.
Will take on any surf that comes his way.
What are the Oxley bros. doing these days?
I want Nightclub Dwight dead in his grave I want the nice-nice up in blazes
Re: Where are they now ??????

Re: Where are they now ??????
^^ i have this memory of Cheyne H & Larry B at Avoca P when i was about 10, may well have been 74' cos i remember massive waves and all the sand had taken over the car park and destroyed the cara park.
after i think about 2 days, swell settled and these guys were taking off 50mtrs back from the point. by the time they hit the point would be in full rail bottom turn and i jus remember being mesmerisede by the moves cheyne & larry doing on these waves. im pretty sure cheyne was on lazor zap single fin.
i can still get amped thinking about it

Re: Where are they now ??????
I remember an article in one of the papers (SMH I'm sure) on Jeremy Oxley & the fact that schizophrenia (& alcohol) had pretty much rendered him a shell of the person he once was.steve shearer wrote: What are the Oxley bros. doing these days?
Anyway, both are on Wikipedia which claims Jeremy is running the official Sunnyboys website & in looking at that it would seem he's doing well again. Peter apparently runs a pizza joint in Newtown. It's funny but I've never thought of the Oxleys as surfers, but rather musicians. I knew they had surfed but I never realised they were good at it.
