What would a 30 year old Nick Carroll think of wavepools, do reckon?
You fccckn mind your tounge boy. Thats our national treasure you're disrespecting.

Wave pools are anathema to me too. They just seem the opposite of the surf ideal.godsavethequeen wrote: ↑Thu Sep 21, 2017 7:31 pmYou've lost me. Truly. Is it a feeling of being left behind? I've been surfing Indonesia and WA for 40 years now. The incredible landscapes and contexts of places like Gnaraloo, the Bluff, Uluwatu, Gragagan, Timor, Lombok and many other places are the complete antithesis of a wavepool. It seems sordid, suburban, restricted, constrained - there's no music to make your soul sing.
And then a big swell hits and and a sort of hyper reality manifests: I'll be just watching, but what a thing to watch. Wave pools?

Re: Kelly's wave.
listen you silly cnut, go back and look at what you accused me of. Muddle headed searching for cheap social media likes. As if I could give a shit about that stuff. You think I don't know my mind about surfing? I am deadly fcuken serious, if you'd said that to my face I'd have had to walk away or slap ya.godsavethequeen wrote: ↑Thu Sep 21, 2017 7:31 pmYou've lost me. Truly. I call it as I see it Nick, and if you're unable to argue without descending into cheap insults and playground threats of slaps then I think we're probably done here

So if you spend millions to build one, you either go near water, and hope a small amount of surfers try it, or build it inland, and hope it becomes a novelty sport?. How do you convince investors in that scenario? Or are there already investors who are either stupid, or happy to gamble on what looks like crap odds.Nick Carroll wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2017 6:21 pmOh I imagine some people would be able to rationalise it. I can't. It makes me want to throw up, just a little bit.
Thinking about it logically, if it was down the road and cheap, I'd try it after 2 weeks of onshore puss, but who would actually intentionally jump in the car and drive an hour, and then pay to surf it ? If the surf is that bad where you lived, you probably wouldn't be interested to start with.
The business logic behind it is interesting to think about
I reckon anyone who has lived in Perth over summer would be quite ok about surfing this.
Re: Kelly's wave.
No fcukin' way for me channels. Whatever they did it would be Perth's best wave, the queues world be enormous.

Beautiful wave Lucky Al, but kinda boring and repetitive after a dozen or so watches. Great for practice and board and fin design I reckon, but similar to watching half pipe snowboarding. As far as contests go, I vote No, well maybe one per season.

Pfft, legion could build one that'd be a mix of pipe and cloud break with the tools in his shedchannels wrote: ↑Thu Sep 21, 2017 10:03 pmThis.Beerfan wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2017 8:07 pmBeen thinking more, it's just odd. So true Beery. Legion's talents are wasted in Perth's suburbia, he needs an industrial behemoth he can use to reshape the planet.

Plenty of cheap(ish) flat land in Perth no?
Re: Kelly's wave.
Surfing wavepools be like rooting prostitutes. Sure you get to have another turn but its nothing like the real thing and probably leave you feeling a little but dirty.
