Wearing a short sleeve 2:2 up here is retarded. When it gets cold you need a long sleeve. I know all the cool kids use short sleeves but the best thing on the GC is a LS 2mm steamer. The water is always warm but the wind isn't.

I just got an Adrenalin 1.5mm steamer for just north of Sydney. Water is still warm but the wind chill was up over the long weekend. Worked well, but gee, wanted to keep active - was starting to feel it a little waiting at the point at the break of dawn.

First surf in the need 4/3 and boots. Comfy and did the job. Be interesting to see how long before the seams start leaking.

hows the water feel compared to here?

Definitely much colder, but wasn't a problem. Wasn't that cold a morning and had the lightest of offshores which made getting changed nicer.
If the sets weren't so inconsistent you could still get away with a 3/2 but the 4/3 and boots was nice while you sit and wait.

Was around 13 degrees water temp when i surfed it. Was Fkng cold. Paddling screwed your hands, splayed fingers, and duckdives were icecream headaches. About the same water temperature as southern France

I personally don't read this thread to see what other people are wearing. I read it for info on quality and people's insights as to the pros and con's of different options.

I've tried most wetsuit variants over the years.

My wardrobe consists off.

Long sleeve rashie.
2/1 hammer short john was great for indo with a long sleeve rashie underneath.
2/2 rip curl chest zip long john. Great in the summer time for short surfs on the longboard. I seem to have a weird habit that involves me using my knees when paddling boards between 7'-9'. As a result, I always use long legged wetties when surfing midlength/longboards. Long johns are great for keeping the sun off your legs, but if you wear one without a rashie, you run the risk of chaff under the arms.
2/2 ripcurl long sleeve spring suit - wear it from Oct to May when surfing shortboards.
2/2 base model quicksilver short sleeve back zip steamer - Oct to May great for summer. Lets loads of water in to keep cool, but keeps the sun and knee chaff at bay.
3/2 steamer when it's too cold for everything else.

jesus h christ

my wardrobe consists of:

boardshorts as much as fcuken humanly possible
2mm springies and ss steamers when boardshorts become vaguely untenable
2mm or 3/2 steamers when they become unavoidable, preferably zip free

best zipperless full suit: 2mm Quik Ignite, 3/2 Rip Curl Flashbomb

I have a Patagonia R2 4/3 chest zip full suit but do not look forward to the sessions which will require me to use it

I swam nude every day I was in Alaska and surfed an old windsurfer in some windswell during winter storms in a springsuit.

was probably 8 or 9 degrees I reckon under the influence of the Kuroshio current. Air temp below zero.

Humboldt county felt the coldest, surfing at the mouth of freshwater lagoons.

I swam in freshwater lakes that were close to freezing. Burned your skin.

But yes Iggs, fcuk that shitt.
