Re: Just general surfing stuff
I've used a grinder and thin cutting disc to very carefully get rid of most of the head. Tap the fin gently ( backwards ). It should come out. If not grind more. Tape off like legion says

ring parramatta police station and tell them you just took control of a city bus, and if the bus goes below 70km an hour, the bus will blow up. praise allah, and hang up the phone.
just wait patiently where you are.
fin keys are about to become the least of your problems.

Thanks guys I'll probably end up trying all approaches starting with Braithies

Reposting here to see if I can get a reply...
Soon I'll be shaping a twin. I'll be surfing it in some size also (head and a half high and bigger) therefore I anticipate a substantial amount of stress-load on the fins and surrounding base.
I don't want glass-ins, I'm going for a fin box-plug system of some sort. Any pointers on what the best fin system would be for a twin to prevent this type of shit from happening ?? Futures, FCS2? Etc.?

Is the winged tail a little restrictive? I'm finding a quad I have with wings is a little stiff at the back
Re: Just general surfing stuff
Restrictive? Nah it's great. Turns sharp on the spot, or projects thru longer arcs. Have had it for few months now, and it's turned out to be probably the most versatile fun all rounder I've owned.

Jeeze, Iggy are those fins as ghastly as they look ? Maybe its just the shot angle.
From looking at the pics, the fins look like they have been poorly glassed to the board. The second photo in particular shows a distinct lack of rovings tying the fin to the board. The workmanship looks amateurish at best.

The fins look and feel great. See here. It's the exact board. (Only four were made under Deus)

As for the craftsmanship, its mighty fine. it's a Chris Garrett shape (he also makes this model as the Rocket Twin Fish under his own label).
As for the materials used? can't comment. Overall the board is holding up OK I guess for the amount (a lot) that I've been using it.
I did get the board second hand so maybe the fin issue has some 'history' behind it.

Do you not want glass ins because you don't want cracking as pictured? That's an easy fix, glass them on properly.
Re: Just general surfing stuff
No id prefer glass ins but want to be able to remove the fins for flights. I don't trust baggage handlers and would rather play it safe.

Re: Just general surfing stuff
These are easier to install if you don't have access to a router.
All you need is a 27mm hole saw (middle hole) and a 30mm hole saw.
The hole saw jig/guide can be made from a 20mm thick piece of wood with the three holes drilled 25mm apart.
These type of fin boxes have the tab slot at a slight angle for fin cant with the grub screws to the inside.

Thanks carvin. Though think I should have access to a router easy enough . The gearbox option is looking solid
