Hey KK, I have a book along this line. It was written just after the war so I take it with a grain of salt. The premise is that Hitler had a condition that wouldn't allow his foreskin to stretch, so he couldn't get a boner or it would be incredibley painful. He loved women, but the catch was that the procedure to fix it was to be circumsised (sp), and since this was a mark of the Jews to him, he wouldn't go through with it. Sucked in to him.

If you want to go fishing a kill your own that's up to you. My main opposition is factory farming treating animals like a number with no worth just so you can have cheap maccas and cheap meat at woolies. Same goes for net fishing where's the skill in that?

Well it would, wouldn't it. The fact that that shark numbers increase and decrease with available fish stocks ... that coastal waters are cleaner than ever along urban stretches of the Australian east coast, that as a result larger than normal schools of baitfish are being seen regularly off numerous beaches, and that sharks tend to track baitfish schools to feed off them and off larger predatory fish ... and that more Australians are spending time on coastal holidays this summer as a result of concerns about the economic downturn ... and that more of 'em are surfing ... and that despite all this, the rate of shark attacks along Australian coasts has largely remained stable and unvarying for over 50 years and the current stats are no reason to suppose 2009 will be any different ... none of this would factor in at all hey.

re halal: it's pretty much the same as kosher, but with an imam doing what the rabbi does with kosher food (and it's not just meat, it's all food and drink)

Halal info, pretty similar to Jewish kosher guidelines;

1. Animals are killed by severing the jugular vein, carotid artery and oesophagus with a razor sharp blade in one stroke. Any creature will lose consciousness pretty quick once this is done. Contrasts to other killing methods such as using a bolt to crush the skull, gassing, and electrical stunning
2. Animals must be alive, healthy and free of sores or disease at the time of slaughter
3. Animals can not be fed remains of other livestock (common practise in chook farms- they just chop up the ones that die and jam them in to the feed, plus this was a big factor in mad cow disease)
4. Animals must not see other animals being slaughtered

Google as always can give you some more info.

Some people kick up a stink about it, but I reckon this is more humane than traditional slaughter methods. Points 3 and 4 are big things for mine.
