Get something basic, like Pinnacle Studio or Ulead Videostudio. I'm guessing that if you ask what software to use on a surfing forum then you don't need anything like Premiere.

Go the final cut pro option. It gives you broadcast quality and is becoming quite the norm in the industry. If you don't have a mac you may be able to find a Avid Express package for windows which is good.

If your serious about video editing then you’ve gotta make sure that you have a f-cking good system.

Not one of those Ma and Pa computers that most on here have got.

Just use Windows Movie Maker to start with or you'll just end up tearing your hair out in a massive out of control rage that might or might not involve the police.

Trust me on this.

If you are on PC - definately go Adobe Premiere Pro. This is the equivalent of Final Cut for PC. Avid Xpress no longer exists - AVID have instead released a "media composer" software version. This is pretty expensive and it isn't easy to get a pirate version.

If you're on a mac - then definately final cut pro. A lot of surf films are cut on final cut - Tim Bonython has a final cut suite setup for all his films.

In terms of programs being broadcast quality - most programs are capable of editing broadcast quality footage - it just depends on what you pump into it. If your cutting DV or HDV then - yes technically it is broadcast quality but be careful with what codecs and compression you use - because if it becomes any more compressed then it won't be broadcast quality anymore.

Any programs going to be hard to use at first (unless you use imovie or windows movie maker) but once you get used to them they're awesome.

Hope this was of some help :)
