Ive felt pretty sketchy surfing the lake mouth there on grey days, apparrently it never used to get surfed that much because shark sightings were pretty common there... gets busy every now and again these days.Longy wrote:One of the things interupted my surf last saturday bout lunchtime at North Entrance, Central Coast.
Was about 4 meters
Its no fake, it really is a photo of the shadow that the photographer's plane cast over the water. With a little water movement over the top its amazing what a distorted shadow will look like.
Oh I see, you guys thought it was a shark.ha ha more fool you. That would have to be one massive White shark, and one that actualy doesn't mind being near breaking water.

Nah, man thats no plane. Look at the the shape of its nose and the curved pectoral fins. Also check out the width of the tail just before its caudal fin. The entire tail is moving in the fashion from side to side as a shark would. You can see glimpses of white near its left pectoral fin as well. GW's can come close to shore.

a 7m great white was caught off kurnell peninsular in 2005, well thats what it said in the local paper. if a great white ate well enough to get that big, its got to be old enough to know that anything less than a seal in fat content isnt worth expending the energy to eat, specially a skinny human.
according to a doco on sharks i saw a few years ago, if a shark lived on a diet of humans, it would starve to death. also with most attacks on people by great whites, the sharks are young and the attack usually consists of one or two taste test bites then spat out, rather than being eaten. so if it is real, the guys most likely to be safe. cant say id want to be in his position and test those theories out though! thats one big fkn shark!

If that is whitewater less than a metre behind him then the wave must have been cresting in front of where he is. That means he must have fantastic balance to remain on his board in such a ridiculous position.
If his board is 6ft long than the shark must be at least 22ft long, less a little for the magnifying effect of being underwater, say 18-20ft. That's big....and probably a world record...is it real....??????

This pic, below, is the larger version now available on coastal watch.
It looks like 18 foot to me and subtract a few for magnification so lets say 16ft/4.8 metres
Typical adult Whites are 4 to 4.8 metres long the largest scientifically proven ones reported have been 6-7 metres.
I've surfed that spot a few times with only a few out. I would never have thought something that big would be interested in that area.
It doesn't look like a goat boat to me.
