This is where i am most conflicted. :?
We as humans have evolved the way we are today by an eating meats and vegatables/fruits. We wouldnt have our brain that can create art, computers and surfing if we did not get our protein from meats.
So there is no question, i think, that eating meat is good for you and 100% natural. Like you dont see PETA in the Serengeti protesting against Lions every time they make a thrilling kill for their survival. Its the laws of our world animals eat animals. Personally i quite like that idea, it keeps us humble and reminds me that we are connnected to these "primitive" animals that we so arrogantly look down on.
BUT The practice of processing animals from crowded farm to dinner plate is just disgusting! And frankly is below us. So here we are, a species that has the eating of animals to thank for allowing us to feel empathy. But when we get there we are now aware that our methods of achieving this is wrong. What are we to do???

I didn't cry, but it nearly made me sick to my stomach... i mean I'm still going to eat meat. But it's sickening the conditions none the less.
Imagine the minds of the guys that have to slit the throats of squeeling pigs all day... Wouldn't that get to you after a while?
I saw something I consider even more disturbing last night. Pictures of a new fetish emerging in Asia called crushing... It's an extension from the guys that get off on women walking on them with high heels, but involves small animals... Disturbing... Saw one photo and backed out of the page(Wasn't a porno site, it was http://www.snopes.com Excellent site for bludging.

in order to feed a huge population farming has to be on a industrial scale. unfortunately on this scale it is not possible to sing every chicken to sleep before humanely dispatching it.
The reality is that to feed the world we NEED GM crops, and highly intensive farming methods.
Now hand me that burger.

Get closer to the food source Coops. And make concious decisions. You dont have to be vegan, or even vegetarian for that matter, but you can support farmers that dont engage in unethical practices.Coops@DY wrote: BUT The practice of processing animals from crowded farm to dinner plate is just disgusting! Check the link to the Peter Singer book I posted above. I should be getting kickbacks for all the times I've plugged it! But he has a chapter on Australian food production which is very relevant (we dont fare too badly compared to the seppos). If nothing else it's interesting reading. We're moving away from the food source, and concious consumerism (isn't that a snappy little buzzword) will get us closer. Plus, it's healthier - less preservatives, less refrigeration.
Bon appetit!

One of the soapiest posts Ive ever seen
Lets all cry for the animals
Humans do worse stuff to humans.
Yeah you gotta feel sorry for the animals in that video, no question about it.
But the fact is, im not gonna let some propaganda like that trying to claim us meat eaters as ignorant, turn me into a fucking vegan.
i respect peoples choice to become one, but not if they're gonna try and push it onto me.
You have to realise that that video was one sided. They would have dug around the archives for the worse videos of animal cruelyt, and they delivered it to you like it was exactly what goes on.
Well we live in Australia, and im pretty hell sure that our animals as a whole do not get treated that badly.
We've got cattle at our farm and they live happy lives. they come right up to you and are always iterested in whats going on.
We bread these cattle with our bull and a lot of cows. We breed cattle and are hence give them life.
I have to admit, we do put them through torture when they get castrated. But the process takes 10 seconds to do. THe ball sack is slit open, the balls get ripped out one by one, and thats it. the calf calms down very quickly.
a few years later when they fatten up from the natural paddocks, ive seen them go to the cattle yards to be auctioned off and they get treated fine.
ive never seen them at the slaughter house but im sure it's not as bad as that video made it out to be.
as andy said, it's just the way the food chain works. other animals eat other animals. it's life.
