how do you put a legrope on?

Post by vb » Thu Nov 09, 2006 8:34 pm

Seriously ... is there any special way? Some sessions I don't even notice the thing, others its jamming between my toes, looping around my lead foot when I turn for a wave or ... (f...ing horrible feeling) standing on it with the backfoot. Think I set it with the stem part pointing 6 oclock, but I'm not sure

do you have a swivel leash - so its not getting all twisted?
have the leash next to your ankle pointing out sideways.

if you want to get really paranoid, put it on the same way each time so you can pull it off without seeing when you get caught underwater on the reef.

and yeah - i still get it ar$eways sometimes - leash between the toes etc.

wrap it round your neck at the beginning of the session - that way it won't get caught between your toes

shutup Serious :!:

on the leg rope bit  always put it on the same way and make sure it doesn't have any twists in it ;)
If it's well engineered it's beautiful .

I have thought about this thread and come to the conclusion that you don't use a legrope that often, so if you need advice as to "How to put a legrope on a high shelf? use a ladder.

1: Get a double-swivel one with the moulded bit that holds it out straight from your ankle.

2: if you're a natural-footer (left foot forward), when you put it on your RIGHT ankle make sure that the bit that holds it out from your ankle points out at the half-past-four position.

3: If goofy (right foot forward) put it on yoru LEFT ankle with the leash sticking out at the half-past-seven position. (12 o'clock is straight ahead of you when standing to attention)

This will reduce the leash dragging in the water and is more likley to keep it away and out of the way of your lead foot. Not 100% foolproof though, especially if you do the quick-swing-about-and-one-stroke-takeoff when the opportunity presents itself.

4: Keep an eye on it when in the water. Stretch it out to get rid of the twists, and reposition it on your ankle as often as you need to.

Don't laugh fellas, I've seen kooks try to surf with the leash on their lead foot.

that's looking at the glass half empty...

If you put it on your nuts, you'll never fall off your board again ...

You mean there's other ways to kick out of a wave other than belly-flopping back over the white water?

If in Sydney I would'nt suggest surfing without a leggy unless you've got a bank all to yourself, (yeah right), cos if your board hits someone they're likely to sue you in this sad day and age. Tiny days are fine. If you're serious with this thread though then as others have said get yourself a leggy with a swivel both ends.

Hopefully it never gets like France where it's now illegal to surf without a leash cos there's definately something pure about surfing without one.
