It was an Oz built custom for someone else.
He sold it to me after paddling it out and deciding it was too small.
But if I was ordering a 6’6 like this I’d have got some
6ounce cloth on it. It did feel pretty light for its length.

5th July and it feels like mid-Spring. Sunny, warm, light north west winds.

El Nino here we come.

It's unseasonably wet and warm in Bali. Water temp 27C.
Surf has been very small for weeks, but a week of overhead started today. One hundred wave starved surfers in the water at 7am

At a very rough guess, around a quarter or a third

Felt a bit brighter today. Thought I was in for a cruisy little surf but the constant rip had other ideas. Plus there was another guy who was having a blinder. I usually snare more waves than him. Every set he seemed to be in the right spot. Still caught a few but it was hard work for what was on offer.

It came good about 3 days ago, popups are still pretty wonky though. I thought I might be out permanently.

I finally got around to trying a pair of large keels on my board.

The boards are quite like the Martin twin pins.

I was amazed at the transition. Previously nothing seemed to work. Yeh they rode OK, but all 2+1s are always a pale simalcron of what a surfboard should do, but OK if you like that sort of thing.

Straight out if the gate it was a hard bottom turn, turned on a dime at the top, overpowered the fin and it drifted slightly and caught again, pumping and turned all the way down the line... exhilarating performance. Repeat half a dozen times. Only small waves, but I'm sure it'll be even better in bigger stuff.

That was the 7'6, I've got a 7' as well, picking up another keel today for it.

Hallelujah brothers.

Pumping this morning, that 90min run up to the high tide was just glorious.

Solid swell today 2.2m, 2,200kJ, light offshore, 2.8m high tide, 0 low, now pretty low and very heavy if you get caught inside.

30 out, better than the 100 plus this morning. Similar conditions predicted for the next 5 days.

What would you expect 257kJ surf to look like Cranked?

I've been observing Surf-forecast daily for the last 3 months trying to calibrate the kJ measurement with wave height observations.
