Re: Where did you surf today ?
Cranky’s wife is sending him money, fail to see how doing this via Western union is any different from doing the same via, say westpac, doing an old school telegraphic transfer and using the pay on application and identity method.

What if it's not really Cranky's missus on the other end, but one of Loofy's trans acquaintances? What then? Serious problems that's what.

Let's say I was selling something on the Gumtree. If someone said they'll pay me via PayPal I'd laugh. If someone said they'd pay me via western union I'd be even more amused.

Telegraphic transfers are electronic payments of cleared funds that are credited directly to a nominated bank account.
I don't have a bank account in Indonesia, and it is not legal for any Indonesion bank to create one for someone who only has a tourist visa.
I tried to open one, they pointed out the above.
Otherwise it was the best solution.

Keep 'em coming guys! Any workable solutions welcomed.
There is a Commonwealth Bank in Indonesia. Great I thought, maybe I can access my CBA account. They are a different legal entity though.
And it was a CBA ATM that took my card. I contacted them to get my card back. They said all non Indonesian CB cards were automatically destroyed.

Indonesian banks, Australian banks, Jim Banks ...

Yes, already covered that, Jim will lend me money if all else fails.

You know banks are reluctant to give you credit cards once you retire. Regardless of what you have in the bank.

There’s well known Pay Pal scams operating on all the marketplaces especially the Gumtree. The only way I’ll do a deal other than cash is I’ll do a bank transfer when I’m with them. The transfer is usually instant and then we’ll exchange the goods.steve shearer wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 4:58 amWhy not pay pal?Mr Puffy Pants wrote: ↑Mon Apr 10, 2023 8:57 pm.

In Cranky’s case here the funds are coming from his wife and taking into account his situation I think WU is probably the best option.

Another moonlight pre-dawny.
much, much slower this morning.
Came in dropped my board in the carpark, I'd left the car unlocked and the keys in the ignition.

There's only ¾ metre showing on the Caloundra buoy at above 10 seconds.
But head high sets rolling through my local.
2 hours from 5.25am is enough for me today.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

fool enough?
OK, will avoid.
I've done it 2 or 3 times with no drama.

Do you barter in chicken and goats?Mr Puffy Pants wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 9:14 am@steve PayPal people can activate disputes and lock down your actual bank account, if you're foolish enough to have a debit account attached. They also only need an email address to create rather than proper id. It just smells bad for something like the Gumtree.
