more trades in the near south pac corridor and CS.

more instability in the SPCZ leading to troughs, easterly dips and tropical and sub-tropical lows.

so more swells from the eastern quadrant.

winds depending.

you got any recollection of the last one shep?

my memory is hazy, but i feel like the banks were always in a constant state of being fucked. ripped out and gutted, all the action out on the back storm bar into a big wide & deep gutter. bit spooky.

i do remember the super bank came of age, and damon harvey netted that 8-footer from off the rock all the way into kirra. but beachies, were in a constant state of being cooked?

last big one was 2010/11, which was primarily noted for the Brisbane floods.

not esp. amazing for surf.

Although Spring 2010, in the lead-up, was fcukn amazing.

I like this little corner of RS.

Just me you and Loof.

they're a bit different when the IOD is negative and the southern annular thing goes a bit retro, ike they appear to be about to do in sync with this La Nina. Effects are magnified. See winter 2007, summer 98/99, 1974.

feeling so La Nina like around here.

moisture in the air, cumulus towers every day out to sea, E swell still continuing, very much attenuated northerly pattern.

thanks for your contribution Nick, don;t be scared to come in here and throw in your 2 cents worth.

Loof won't bite. He feels a bit inferior around weather nerd discussions.

this is really nice isn't it. i could get quite used to in here.

the la nina i'm thinking of was before the 2010/11 shep ... I had my torn achilles that year and moved to angourie in late 2010. around there was really fun. some big crisp days at backbeach too.

the more I look at this coast and the patterns the more I realise I don't have a fucken clue about it really.

I was thinking about winter swells over the years after this year's amazing events and got hold of some pics a friend of mine posted. This was from June 1968, showed a 20’+ easterly groundswell at about 20secs hitting a beach near me. Strong SW offshore, late winter afternoon.

This was at least as big as anything that hit here this year, probably bigger. Not a word of it in any surf mag of the time. Nobody I talked with remembered it. This astounding swell passed unmarked by any surfer's memory I've been able to unearth.

So this summer, hot, humid, more storms / cyclones, and more rain?
