Hello,
Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a nautical mile/knot distance calculator. For example, I was wondering if there is a way to calculate the nautical distance between two sets of coordinates.
Any assistance is appreciated,
regards
Bob

Here you go bgreen..

Just read the notes on how to enter the lats and longs.
Also if you have Google Earth you can just open the ruler tool and draw a line between your two points and get a distance in whatever unit you may need. Much easier

Re: nautical mile distance calculator
If you want to write your own spreadsheet with calculations rather than using the internet, I use this formula for the great circle distance between two points
ACOS(SIN(Lat1)*SIN(Lat2)+COS(Lat1)*COS(Lat2)*COS(Long1-Long2))*6372.795
Note:
Input Latitudes and Longitudes must be converted to radians as opposed to degrees
Result is in km

^^^old skool there Don!
Always found a chart and a pair of dividers to be the easiest way personally, just be careful near the poles when using a mercator projection. It would have been so much simpler if this planet was perfectly round instead of an inconvenient oblate spheroid

What can I say Longi!!! I'm an engineer and love formulas mate!!!
And I don't generally use it near the poles as there's usually ice shelfs there that kinda don't generate swell!!!

Re: nautical mile distance calculator
Thanks all. Great suggestions. I have been trying to learn a stats program called R and have now a function that does all this and developed a spreadsheet of coordinates for the east coast (mainly) which I can then use to measure distances to a weather system.
Thanks again,
