Re: what makes great surfers, great surfers?

Funny watching those old seventies vids online or in the pub. Basically 90% of the moves are now done by your average competent longboarder on any given day of the year. Whats left?
Style.

Macaroni?
A vagina?

Re: WA in September

Thanks. I thought I'd hit the Margaret area mainly for the range of surf, plus other stuff i.e. wine. Would really like to head north for a bit of adventure plus warmer water but we'll see how things pan out. Some sudden talk about mortage repayments has recently entered the conversation. Hopefully ...

WA in September

I might be going to WA in September for a week or so. Generally touristing it out while the missus attends a work thingy then probably go down South and a bit of surfing. Any advice re: water temp, winds etc. Always thought I'd cruise over one day but never really put it at the top of my agenda. Thi...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Decided I better put the rego sticker on this arvo. Geez they make a mess coming off these days. After five days out of the last six in the water I think the tides a bit low anyway. It was only starting to break properly yesterday just as the sun really sank. Just so magic being out in the warm wate...

Watched it on youtube last week. Pretty mean tarp grinders and the smooth perfection of lino.

Yeh, wow great to read so much about the Webbers.
They command respect apparently. Nice of Dan to tell us.
"Ego its not a dirty word" presumably that Skyhooks number would have been given a fair belting in the old van as well.

Re: Alaias

Pros?
Rider falls off often plus can't catch many waves.
Cons?
No leggie so out of control sharpish lump of wood careering through the line up.

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Couldn't get a park near home so double parked, grabbed the mal and had a load of fun till the sun went down on the 1 footers. Hadn't even vaguely thought of going for a surf till then. Thats what I love about surfing.

Re: Bear Surfboards

I love my heavy glass single fin but I'm on the lookout for a big wide squaretail epoxy number that I can lug around with ease and not treat like a carton of eggs. Especially in summer when its crowded. I love the feather light takeoffs on big cresting peaks you can do on a surftech. Whether it goes...

Surely John Singleton would bid for it.
Wouldn't it be great to have a complete quiver of promo boards?

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Tama had a lot of thrills and spills. Probably the most user friendly at that size for a while. Fantastic pummelings on the rock shelf between Maccas and Tama. Hey great call trying to launch off straight into the approaching sets. One rissolled mal rider got washed right around to Tama over the roc...

I know some people will find this really annoying but how many really good ideas developed because of the free time made available to dole recipients in the seventies and eighties? New directions explored, lifestyles invented, businesses started? Personally I just got reallllllllly out of it and wen...

Re: Bali/Legion holiday

You should have fun. Try going up Seminyak way as well. The wind swings back and forth at that time of year so it should be offshore some of the time but it will probably change back and forth through the day so keep an eye on it. I took my son for a paddle at Kuta a couple of years ago on high tide...

Funny last time I looked Rip Curl at Bondi was full of Maurice Cole boards including some square nosed mals. Dunno how many punters there know who he is.
