Re: What boards DID you take to Indo?

....you can pick up a very well designed surfboard by a gun shaper that will last for years for the same...or less than another bashed up pile of poop that will be in the landfill by Xmas. Yeah. ATM you could pick up two Byrne Easyriders, a 6'10 and a 7', in good condition for $375 each at my LBS, ...

Re: What boards DID you take to Indo?

Cranked you've obviously preserved your taste and judgement when it comes to motorbikes. what happened with surfboards? Why not pine after a Mitchell Rae Outer Islands instead of a generic pop-out? serious question. My taste and judgment is exactly the same in bikes as it is for surfboards, but its...

Re: What boards DID you take to Indo?

This was the first motorcycle I owned. I was still at school. https://i.ytimg.com/vi/Js8rprPhk5I/maxresdefault.jpg And I spent a season working in a motorcycle shop as a mechanic and racing one of these http://i1.wp.com/www.bike-urious.com/wp-content/uploads/Bultaco-TSS-250-Right-Side.jpg And got a ...

Re: What boards DID you take to Indo?

2. I find onshore days are a very inferior surf experience, say a 3 out of 10 compared to a 10 out of 10 for offshore/calm days. Heresy! I probably surf at least 75% of my time in onshore conditions, sometimes for months at a time. Sometimes when it's clean or offshore I go up to hit a heavy pitchi...

Re: What boards DID you take to Indo?

Cmon cranked the cool kids don't like the boards you ride so shut up and buy some polys soon. You're making them uncomfortable I'm gonna get them professionally sprayed. It will simulate that aging yellow and myriads of deck depressions, and I'll add some board stickers: http://surfcrazy.com/stanle...

Re: What boards DID you take to Indo?

For me Surftechs and wind has not been a problem for the following reasons: 1. 95% of my surfing is done in light offshore or calm conditions in Indonesia on well formed long period waves. 2. I find onshore days are a very inferior surf experience, say a 3 out of 10 compared to a 10 out of 10 for of...

Re: What boards DID you take to Indo?

What's the advantage, cranked? Honest question. In kayaking/surf skis and windsurfers lightness and stiffness are almost universally desirable, as power is translated directly into speed. As that's my background prior to starting surfing I had a few Tuflite surfboards when I started, mainly for dur...

Re: What boards DID you take to Indo?

Jesus Braithy, you've upped the anti here. Its the most compelling argument posted so far. But for me to replicate it would just be too expensive. My favourite boards ATM are the Stretch F4 and the Merrick Flyer 1, both out of production. CI will still supply a custom Flyer, don't know about Stretch....

Re: What boards DID you take to Indo?

Hey, I wasn't saying I surf well, just that I surf better on the Surftechs that I've ridden, especially a few that I've got lately.

Re: What boards DID you take to Indo?

Steve, I spent a large amount of money a few years ago when I got rid of ALL my surftechs and, over a two year period, went through about a dozen TSA boards, 3 LSD pollies, 2 Agency pollies and 8 XF epoxies, also 2 Firewires. I went back to Surftechs starting 2 years ago and I am completely happy wi...

Re: What boards DID you take to Indo?

Steve, I've ridden every major sort of construction there is - including 2 years riding Berts hand made balsa's - all for years. Literally hundreds of boards. The only thing that cuts it for me is my own experience, 50 years of test rides! I prefer Surftechs

Re: What boards DID you take to Indo?

Aside from that, they're fùcking ugly. And strictly for ... the buyer that doesn't give a flying fück about how cool they look or who approves of them etc. Hatchy, I'm interested in your use of ugly for a Surftech. Most surftechs are also available in other constructions. Would the same board hand ...

Re: What boards DID you take to Indo?

Here's what Nick Carroll thinks: By "epoxy", WK* presumes you mean a SurfTech TufLite or similar composite product. Future of surfing? Turn of the century fad? We suspect neither description fits this form of surfboard manufacturing. After extensive testing experience on various TufLite boards in th...

Re: What boards DID you take to Indo?

But. As soon the surf either gets too windy, choppy, or big, all of the arguable "advantages" of the stiff immediate flex and response of tuflight straight away become a fùcking huge detriment to their performance without any doubt whatsoever. Horses for courses. Maybe you need to move onto the 6'6...

Re: What boards DID you take to Indo?

I had a 7' Byrne Tuflite which was light and did feel a little bit skittish on the 2 occasions I used it but Cranked owns it now and likes it. Yeah my first impression was skittishness, but that was in smaller gutless waves. In bigger stuff its absolutely rock solid, it just locks in perfectly. It ...
