Re: Happy New Year!!!

Well GFS certainly phcuked up big time with that call but as it stands , it's a damm good thing. A semi-stationary low pressure region drifting in the Coral Sea (the original Low progged by GFS , did move off the CQ coast , drifted NE and is weakening). Looks like a nice sustained tradewind swell re...

Re: Where are they now ??????

Herro has been living at Lennox the past few years, usually found at the pub , or riding a bike with a brown sanga in hand. Suffers from pancreatitis, and has recently had every single one of his teeth removed due to rotten teeth leading to general septicaemia. He tried to dry out for a few months b...

Re: Happy New Year!!!

BOM have recently issued a strong wind warning for South Coastal waters due to a low forming off Gladstone. They have it remaining weak though and drifting out into the CS. Whichever way you slice it, there's surf on the horizon. I'm thinking GFS might be overcooking things.....gee they're sticking ...

Re: Happy New Year!!!

what fantasy is this. . Don't know what synoptic chart your looking at Nick but both GFS and EC are progging a fairly serious swell generating pattern for the lower Coral Sea. In GFS case a repeat of the coast hugging hybrid low that produced 8-10 foot tow surf on the Goldy and devestating floods f...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v516/wand1977/tubebullet.jpg Joels execution maybe way left of center but the idea is cutting edge. Ummm....not even close to cutting edge...just a groovy well packaged re-make of seventies designs. In a more modern incarnation Dick Van Straalen has been making the...

Re: Santa's Present

Still a helluva lot of uncertainty wrt model runs and location of convective activity in CS. Wouldn't be surprised to see low form much closer to the coast (ie off Fraser). SST's are outrageous in the CS right now. Very tricky forecasts, even short/medium term forecasts are seriously dicey. (um........

Re: psychological aspects to bigger wave riding

I'd say momentum and "peaking" are also important elements. You have to be "on" when the swell peaks. Especially on the East Coast where we might only get one really good swell per year. As a classic example during the famous July 2001 swell I spent the better part of the afternoon before the classi...

Re: Point Break Indo - the sequel

I was working on a learn to surf camping tour for much of the late nineties/2000's. I can vouch for the fact that "Point break" (possibly the worst film ever made....only saved by Keanu Reeves unintentionally hilarious performance) had a MASSIVE impact on the psyches of learner surfers particularly ...

I'd say volcanic, or Brisbane metamorphic.
Pandanus palm is a bit of a giveaway.
Looks like cyclonic swell on the Sunny Coast....outer edge of Noosa; Hells gates?

Hey Nick, I was wondering if I could pick your brains a little. I've noticed that some swell models are actually showing up some super long period NNE groundswell for SE Qld come mid-late next week (in conjunction with the slightly smaller and lesser period E groundswell). This NNE groundswell show...
