Re: new short board for big...old...guy...
Petulance, I have a 6'4" x 20" x 2 5/8" v-skate that sounds like the perfect small step down from your waterskate. Not only is it a bit smaller, but the v-skate is that bit less volumed. I don't surf it much any more, but it's too well-used to make it worth selling...and besides, I have a soft spot ...

Re: Longboard disgust
It seems the real problem is with novices. Maybe learners should be registered, made to display L plates and be restricted to surfing within designated areas, inside the L flags.

Re: Hypto Krypto voted "board of the year"
I find my tiny JD fits the wave better when it's under head high and decent shape/hollow than a midlength ( you know I love them ) or my fish ( it needs fast open faced waves IMHO ). I also find the wide tail/narrower nose gets me in much earlier than wide point forward boards. And once up and runn...

Re: Sideney
Not a fan of the Coopers Arms after its refurb. They ruined the Coopers, did they? That's a bloody tragedy. I second the Carlisle. I whiled many a sunny Sat arvo there. Also the Golden Barley which is really close to the Factory too (forgot about the Barley). Unless they've refurbed/ruined those pu...

Re: Sideney
Vic on the Park is the only really close option for a last cheap(er) beer before heading into the Factory. I don't know specific places to stay, but I'd look into one of two areas: 1. Enmore/Newtown: Enmore Rd and King St are the main drags of these suburbs and are packed with pubs and restaurants, ...

Re: Which board do you hope to surf tomorrow?
Still way too big to take my kids for a paddle, the beach is still getting smashed apart. Yesterday I tried to convince them we could drive to Bellambi and it would be small enough, I even drew diagrams of swell direction, the point and the protection it offers. No takers. Did you even get a look a...

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Maroubra's south end. Managed to fit in three hours. As much as I hate the crowds, I've gotta say I love surfing there on an easing E or NE swell. I've had some epic sessions there in those conditions, and today was one of them. Some close-outs, particularly the sets, but there were also some pretty...

Re: Is my board too long/thick/wide?
Jesse, you might need to do what I did. I was learning on a mini-mal shape that was 6'6" x 22"(!) x 2 3/4 (it was a Miller Powerglide), and it was good in lots of the ways learners need a board to be good, ie stable for learning to pop up, stable once up and riding, easy to paddle onto waves early, ...

Is there room in that garage for a shaping bay, Batoes? If it's too far out you may have to go it alone with your crazy mutant experiments.

Re: Board report - new Miller V-Skate
Nice, Damo. What are the dimensions? I was hoping to buy that 6'3" V-skate, Betty, but Grant told me it had gone already. Looks like it was you that beat me to it.  No matter. Grant, being the nice bloke that everyone says he is, told me he could squeeze in another custom before he left....
