Re: Surfboard design 101
^^^ That's what Tom Wegener's website talks about and is right on the money with his theory on nose riding design. He does a page on rail design and his theories on rail shapes and water movement. It largely seems to agree with NC's summary above except on a few points which may be more about langua...

Re: Gloss Coat
What's the story??[/quote] Don’t know to be honest BDuck, just most of the recent Simon’s ‘look’ like they have a bit of a different finish, could be just the level of finish - either way it is NOT a criticism. There’s a few in at the the moment, will have a look, especially at the 45° lay up as had...

Re: Surfboard design 101
I have done a few boards with soft rails and the go fine, maybe even better in bowly waves...I have also done boards with hard edges the whole rail.....Maybe check out Geoff McCoys thoughts on rail edges, very interesting reading...I think its a case of majority of shapers do them hard and sharp in...

Surfboard design 101
Dumb question no 1 - rails. Short board rails have had a sharp edge from approx slightly forward of the front fin through to the tail for a very long time. Is this right? What really happens if there is no sharp edge here? What happens if the rail is just shaped slightly softer through the tail? Has...

Re: raps for tc
Definitely not writing everything post slater off but.......was watching a thing about Bells and everyone interviewed reckoned Occy had the perfect style for the wave and that no one surfed it better. I remember similar raves about him surfing Jefferies. The thing I don't like about people who deve...

Re: Gloss Coat
You want to know what a sanded filler coat really looks like, pick up a strong coloured board and check out the pin holes. While you’re at it, investigate what the finish is on some of Base’s boards. Are the joys of repair, inspecting other people’s work ethic. Next! Rick - I've been thin...

Re: Show/tell your fave 2+1 setups
rode it again today, moved the fin back to right back in the box but it tightened it up a bit too much, it was great when there was a bit of wall to turn off or spped from a section but the waves were flatter faced and only the occasional section to hit, it went well when I got the good waves but th...

Overall dimensions of items would be a help. Size in litres is ok but not enough if your're buying on-line only and can't see it in the flesh.

Not sure if this counts as periphery as it was more of an eye-full... Umina point about...well... a long time ago. About 4 guys out. Just after i jump off a southerly blew up so the other guys went in. Decided to get a few before the wind completely smashed it. Waiting for a set and just having a lo...

Speaking of drug addled, is there any drug testing on the ASP tour? Are any of the pro's tested as they would be in the Tour de France or other professional sporting comp? Maybe no-one gives a rat's? What drugs could you take to performance enhance pro-surfing? A couple of cones before a heat at J-B...

Re: Flexibility
This is an aside from the over 35's thread, but i rekon flexibility is overated, especially as my misses and daughters are far more flexible than me, but none of em can surf for shit. I'v never been flexible, but my dear old granny could still bend down and touch her toes well into her 80's. I'v be...

Re: Channel Islands Biscuit or Fishcuit
Exactly Rich, 1. Why would you pay $800+ for a Stock board? 2. Duck, Do you work for Onboard? I dig getting a blank and it telling me what it wants to be. (Even A Pre Shape). This is again a stupid sheep forum. $820 for a rack board.... Please. Did Al shape it? I don't think so.  $800 ...

Re: Channel Islands Biscuit or Fishcuit
Dear Mister Duck, a GOOD shaper .... If he is any good , he'll nail it first time, or come pretty close...Al Merrick dosn't need the money, your local guy does. RichQ - A further explanation if I may: If you have a fish template and Jim Banks has a fish template and Bourton has a fish template and ...

Re: Channel Islands Biscuit or Fishcuit
I know there is a lot of support on this forum for local shapers providing the best outcome for a surfer, however, i don't know that i agree that a local shaper can just shape you a quad or fishcuit or any other "copied" shape as well as the "off the rack" board that has been developed by another sh...
